It’s fashion week season again! After three months with no fashion updates besides 2016 resort collections, some of us were almost losing our minds. Summer is right around the corner, and New York fashion week has once again opened the season. For the next whole month, we will talk you through the new trends from each different fashion week (NY, London, Milan, and Paris) and give you tips on how to adapt them for your everyday outfits.
Starting with New York, we could see some trends that are still going strong: cropped tops and pants, transparency, black and white, midi skirts, pantalonas. Yet, there are some news around the corner that we cannot ignore. Light pink was one of the most eminent colors on the runway, used as a neutral and very elegant complement. Moreover, the silhouettes were very tall, loose and clean – no tight clothes or vibrant colors were seen.
Slits
Slits were without a doubt one of the biggest hits at Big Apple’s runaway shows. And they appeared on everything: midi skirts, long dresses, blazer sleeves and pants. Slits can bring some sex appeal to your look, but the slits of the season are not femme fatale at all. On flowy, loose and delicate skirts and dresses, they only give a fresh look to the outfit and look girlie.
Loose tailoring
Very present at Calvin Klein and Givenchy, light and loose tailored pants and overcoats made their mark this season. Always in light colors, they almost give a pajamas’ look to the outfit, but also make it more serious and elegant. Match loose light fabric overcoats with shorts and plain T-shirts plus flats. This will make your outfit stylish and fresh without being too strict.
Flowing bands
The runaway was full of cuts and loose cloth bands flying around. Different and very stylish, this trend is easy to use and gives you a cool look without trying. You can find blouses and belts full of bands, or even improvise with scarves – it will all depend on your style and creativity. Just be careful not to choose too long bands because they can bother you throughout the day.
Patchwork
Bringing some 80’s and 90’s gipsy influence, some brands presented a lot of patchwork, matching different floral patterns in light fabrics like silk. Coach and Diane Von Furstenberg did it with grace, bringing a very feminine and powerful image with them. These can be used in any of your outfit’s piece, but the suggestion is to go full patchwork and use some caramel leather on top.
Sport
Sporty pieces were also very marking at NY. With some 80’s influence, bomber jackets and shorts with pop references showed up. Very easy to wear, they can match with pretty much any thing. Just make sure to choose some basic and more girlie clothes, like slim blouses and delicate shoes, so the 80’s sport don’t look too literal.
