How to Channel Your Inner Beyoncé

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UCF chapter.

When I think of the world fierce, one woman always comes to mind. That woman is none other than Queen B herself. No matter where she is, who she is with, or what is going on her life, she always is fabulous and confident. As collegiates dealing with a wide variety of issues, here are my favorite Beyoncé-isms that we can apply to our lives.

Beyoncé-ism #1

Don’t just date any guy.

Wait until you’ve found someone who you really get along with and understand on a deep level. Beyoncé and Jay-Z are creative equals who support each other no matter what. They got married in 2008 are still going strong (they also have the cutest daughter in the world)!

Beyoncé-ism #2

Even if you are just wearing sweatpants to class, carry yourself like you are wearing a ball gown.

No matter what Beyoncé is wearing, she wears it with confidence. Whether it’s sweatpants and no makeup to get on an airplane, or rocking a couture ball gown at the Met Gala, she is always confident in herself and her style.

Beyoncé-ism #3

Some parts of your daily life should be kept private.

You don’t need to post everything on Twitter and Instagram. Have special moments that are just for you. Beyoncé is typically a very private person when it comes to her family life. She only promotes her songs and her music in a way that she controls.

Beyoncé-ism #4

Flaunt what you got.

Thanks to Beyoncé, we now have the word “bootylicious” in the dictionary. Beyoncé could have tried to make her body conform to the beauty standards of her time, but instead she embraced who she was and what she looked like. No matter your size or height, embrace the wonderful things about yourself and flaunt them with no shame.

Beyoncé-ism #5

Keep your girls by your side.

Beyoncé started out in a group called Destiny’s Child, which included her, Kelly Rowland, and Michelle Williams. Kelly Rowland has been her friend all these years, and they have been through some rough patches, they are still there for each other no matter what.

So that’s it! When it comes to college life, all you have to do is look to Beyoncé for inspiration. Whenever you don’t know what to do, or need some guidance in your life, just think “What Would Beyoncé Do?”

Jillian James is a senior at the University of Central Florida. She is majoring in Writing and Rhetoric and minoring in Mass Communication (because apparently you can’t minor in Beyoncé studies). Her favorite food is free because she is a college student and the two loves of her life are Ben and Jerry (of Ben and Jerry’s ice cream fame). If she’s not writing or reading she is probably watching The Office or waiting in line at Starbucks. She loves to show off her dance moves in “inappropriate” places like the grocery store. You can follow her on Twitter and Instagram @Jillianrosej, where she frequently posts things that make people think that she has her life together.
Victoria is a senior studying Broadcast Journalism and minoring in Criminal Justice at UCF, and is also the Editor-in-Chief of Her Campus UCF. When Victoria is not attending classes, you can find her and her giant hair (it's full of secrets) in the Student Union pretending to study, but actually watching Criminal Minds on Netflix. Her dreams include holding a puppy for three days straight, and marrying Jimmy Fallon on the stage of Saturday Night Live. If you see Victoria around campus and she hasn't quoted Beyonce three times, run because you have found an imposter! This lovely Italian lives for Beyonce quotes (ladies, tell 'em) and fashionable boots. If you like cheesy jokes, cute pics of animals dressed like humans, or embarrassing stories of her life, you should follow her on Twitter @imunprevictable, or her step-by-step blog on Tumblr on how to survive college! *Does Single Ladies dance out of room*
