Five Ways to Have Positive Body Image While Away at College

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Bloom U chapter.

1. Don’t put a full length mirror in your room! As silly as this sounds, you are going to spend ten times longer in the morning standing in front of that second guessing what you have on. Without having a mirror in your room, you’re able to trust your instinct that what you have on looks good!

2. Don’t compare yourself to others on campus! It’s really easy to sit down and people watch and notice all the different body types on campus. Don’t compare yourself,Ā knowing that you’re independent from the next body. You’re body is one ofĀ  kind, treat it right!

3. Make a point to go to the gym at least once a week! There are SO many benefits to going to the gym. If you can find the time to go to the gym once a week at least, you will start to feel proud of yourself. One hour, take your flash cards and jump on theĀ  bike. Kill two birds with one stone, and once you’re done your endorphin will be high, and you’ll know all that test material.Ā

4. Focus on all the posititves about yourself, not the negative. It’s so east to focus on the negative things about yourself, especially when it comes to your body and looks. Sometimes it’s even harder to focus on the positive than the negative. Here’s the thing, not everything in life is about looks. you are so much more than a pretty face! A lot of what makes you who you are is your personality! Thought it may be hard, try and think about the attributes about yourself that you life. Maybe you;re able to make people laugh, or you’re super crafty or even artsy.

5. Don’t feed into the social media hype. It is SO east to fall into the social media trap. Trap meaning you feel like to be beautiful you have to look like the women on the television, or on the runway. The real fact of the matter is that all of those pictures are airbrushed. You just have to remember that everyone has flaws, big or small, noticeable or not they’re there. Try and find a body positive role model. There are tons on Instagram, women who have either curvy bodies, fit bodies, any type. Though the super models may look like their life is perfect, along with their bodies but, you can have a near perfect life with any body type. Life is what you make of it!
