New York Fashion Week was packed with celebrities, high end designers, notable fashion insiders, and one stellar athlete who put on show just days after exiting the U.S. Open Tennis Championships in Flushing, NY: Serena Williams.
Williams has been a designer for HSN for the past few years, making appearances on the network to sell her clothes. This year she kicked things up a notch and created a 23 piece collection to walk down the runway. According to WWD.com, the collection was inspired by nostalgia and featured a slew of fringe details.
Being the number one tennis player in the world is no easy task and Williams took to designing the collection between tournaments, telling People magazine that, “It was a lot” and explained that she had to work on the collection and show for six months.
Williams’ work off the court paid off as her pieces have been selling out since the show. The format of the show was unique itself as it was live broadcast on HSN and all pieces were made available to buyers immediately following the show in an affordable price range of $29-$159. according to WWD.com
However, it wasn’t only the clothes and tennis star that shined. Her audience was filled with a-list celebrities such as Anna Wintour, Andre Leon Talley, Gigi Hadid, Robin Roberts, Lily Aldridge, and supposed boyfriend Drake, whose music was also used in the show, People Magazine reports.
After a memorable show, Williams wants to prepare for another one, which HSN is also excited about calling her line, “one of our fastest-growing fashion businesses.” According to WWD.com.
