Lies Every College Girl Tells Her Parents

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at URI chapter.

Let’s face it, we all grew up watching Disney movies and reading children’s books which taught us that honesty is the best policy. But now that we’re college students it’s the prime time for us to make a bunch of mistakes and almost never get a full night of sleep. Of course, no one likes to lie, but we still need to tell our parents what they want to hear, especially if they’re still paying the bills. And besides, they were young once too!

I need you to transfer more cash for food. I spent all of my money on books already.

No I didn’t just wake up. I just got back from my morning run!

I don’t know why I sound sick? I’m definitely not hungover. I think its just allergies.

These first few weeks have been great! I’m already ahead on the assignments in my syllabus.

I’m super prepared for my first exam this Friday!!

Yes I’m eating healthy. I even have breakfast every morning, too.

My room looks just like it did after you moved me in.

My classes are great. I would never skip!

No, I’m not seeing anyone. I’m really just trying to focus on school right now.

I’ve been looking for a job everywhere but no one is hiring.

I don’t think I’m going to be able to make it home this weekend. I have a group project to work on.

Sorry I missed your call! My phone was on silent in the library.

I had to drop that class because the professor hated me already.

Honestly though, everyone in my class failed that exam so I guess I did pretty well.

So we tell a few white lies to keep the peace… what our parents don’t know won’t hurt them, right?
