Name: Alex Egertson
Year: Junior
Major: Political Science & Religion
Hometown: Frazier Park, CA
Height: 6’ 1”
Relationship status: Single
Favorite breakfast food: An omelet or egg scramble with lots of veggies.Â
Favorite sport: Umm to watch or play? Either way I think Baseball is my favorite, but I also love Golf and watching Football.
Â
HC: Let’s start things off: how do you feel about being nominated as a campus cutie?
AE: It is a real honor to be nominated for something with such imaginative alliteration.
Â
HC: Haha, okay. With that, let’s dive into it, shall we? Who’s your biggest celebrity crush and why?
AE: Definitely Emma Stone. She is super funny and a great actress but I also feel like you could have fun doing just about anything with her. Plus she is unbelievably beautiful and a total dork.
Â
HC: What’s your ideal first date?
AE: Oh gosh that’s tough… I am also really bad at making decisions so that doesn’t make this any easier. Well, I’d want to do something where you can get to know the person but also something where you don’t have to talk if it gets awkward or isn’t going well (I’ve been there before). So I’ll go with the classic dinner and a movie, or maybe even go to a baseball game. We’d get Thai or Mexican food, or sushi (bad at decisions), and then see a good movie and then if all was going well cap it off with an evening stroll and talk about whatever we felt like.
Â
HC: Â Describe your ideal girlfriend in 5 words.
AE: Funny, confident, intellectual, happy & energetic.
Â
HC: What would be a deal-breaker in a relationship?
AE: Well I guess I don’t like when people text a lot while you’re with them so I’ll say that. And if you’re talking about bigger stuff then I guess someone who is on the more pessimistic side of life is a deal breaker too.

Â
HC: Let’s move toward where you are now: where are you studying abroad right now? How did you choose it, what made you decide to go there and how are you liking it thus far?
AE: I am studying aboard in Oxford, England as part of the CLU Oxford Program. I chose it because one, its Oxford, and I thought that sounded so amazing, but also because we get to travel throughout Europe and not just one location. Plus I love the idea of traveling with fellow CLU students and forming a community with them.
And so far the trip is great. I am officially over jetlag and just enjoying the new scenery and the culture shift. Â
Â
HC: What’s the biggest difference between Cal Lu and Oxford (school-wise, friend-wise, culture-wise)?
AE: Basically everything is different; it would be like comparing apples to oranges. But both are lovely for there own reasons!
Â
HC: What’s your dream job?
AE: Right now I want to be a teacher at the college level but when I was a kid I always wanted to be an architect. I have no clue why but I think buildings are fascinating- so I guess that. But I am super bad at math, drawing and art so I don’t think I’d be a good architect but I sure appreciate it.
Â
HC: And here’s some not-so-serious questions. If you could have one superpower, what would it be and why?
AE: Definitely flying because I think it would be very convenient, and it would be a fun to look at the world from above whenever I felt like it.
Â
HC: Do you have any secret/ weird talents or hobbies?
AE: I think my talents/hobbies are pretty normal but you can be the judge. Most people don’t know that I love carpentry and building stuff. I can’t juggle or anything like that though.
Â
HC: Any favorite bands/artists/music styles?
AE: I love music! I think it’s the best form of artistic expression and, because of that, there are so many different types so nearly everybody likes it. I really enjoy classic rock music: bands like Led Zeppelin, Jimi Hendrix, Simon and Garfunkel, The Beatles. But my favorite band is Dave Matthews Band. Their style is so unique and combines elements of rock, folk, and jazz,  and Dave is a super weird dude, which makes his lyrics hilarious but also very meaningful.
Â
HC: You’re really into music! Do you play any instruments? Which are your favorite to play?
AE: I play guitar mostly but I can also play a little ukulele, mandolin, bass, and clarinet, though that was years ago. Guitar is definitely my favorite, but I like playing or listening to any music. I love playing guitar or anything else because there’s just something about picking up a piece of wood and some metal strings, that otherwise do nothing but gather dust, and make it talk to you. As a result I have much respect for great musicians.  Â
