In this day and age, feminism has a different appearance and broader goals from the first feminism movement in the early 20th century which primarily focused on the right of women’s suffrage, or right to vote. Today, a focus of the feminism movement that is gaining more momentum is the importance of equality for all. KimberlĂ© Crenshaw first coined the term “intersectional” in 1989 and defined it to mean the theory of how different types of discrimination interact. Intersectional feminism is essentially the inclusion of all oppressed peoples under one movement. To put into fancier terms by geekfeminism.wikia.com, “Intersectionality is a concept often used in critical theories to describe the ways in which oppressive institutions are interconnected and cannot be examined separately from one another.”Â
