Campus Cutie: Mendel Philippe

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Montclair chapter.

Everyone meet Mendel, this week’s Campus Cutie! Not only does he hold multiple positions on campus but he is also the co-owner of My Delivery MSU. So it is no surprise that after having the chance to sit down with Mendel, Her Campus Montclair learned quite a few things about what it means to follow your dreams with the utmost dedication and nonstop work.

Name: Mendel Philippe

Age: 20

Hometown: Port-au-Prince, Haiti

Year: Junior

Major: Biochemistry

Hobbies: Working out & helping people

Favorite Artists: Meek Mill and Fetty Wap

HCM: How involved are you on campus?

MP: When I first started at Montclair, I ran track. As of right now I’m an SA, RA, and I work in Panzer Gym as a Student Assistant. I’m also involved in research with one of my advisors in the Biology Department.

HCM: Would you rather be liked or respected?

MP: I would rather be respected because I respect everybody.

HCM: Aside from money, what is one tool you would use to change the world?

MP: I would try to use my past experiences to motivate people. I had a tough childhood, so I would use my past to compare it to my present in order to inspire others. I would also explain to people that for them to succeed in life, they have to put in work no matter what. You can’t expect change if you’re not working for it.

HCM: What quote inspires you daily?

MP: “As dream chasers we accomplish our dreams wide awake.”

HCM: That’s a great quote! Speaking of dreams, what are your top 3 dream destination spots to vacation?

MP: Ghana, Paris and Brazil.

HCM: Nice! So, since you are the campus cutie of the week, are you single?

MP: Yes and I’m ready to mingle!

HCM: What do you look for in a woman?

MP: A woman who cares, has a good communication, is very focused, independent and will always be there for me.

HCM: Ok, that sounds reasonable! Lastly, what is your view on love in today’s generation?

MP: I feel like a majority of people are after others for their social status. A lot of people are more focused on who you know rather than who you are. At the same time, there are still those people who care a lot but don’t know how to show it.

Before we parted ways with Mendel, we asked if he had anything else to say to our readers. His response was subtle and inspirational to say the least. “If you can think of an idea, don’t sit on it. If it gets hard trying to succeed with that idea, don’t change the destination, change the plan!”

We would like to thank Mendel for taking the time to sit down with us and give us a little glimpse of what it means to be a certified dream chaser!
