“Mom you’re never right so please stop with the advice.” It seems like moms are always telling us what to do, when to do it, and how to do it. In our high school brains we like to say, “I’m 18, I understand life. You don’t get what it’s like now. It’s DIFFERENT.” Fast forward to being 21 and a junior in college; any advice your mom gave you is probably cruicial and 100% accurate. Here’s some classic lines to prove that Mom’s really do know best.
Â
1. “Go to the gym”
The freshman 15 is real and very scary. Mom bought cute Norts to help motivate you to workout and there was strategy behind what food would be kept in your dorm. You swore to yourself that binge eating wouldn’t happen and trips to the gym would be a thing, but those were far-fetched dreams. Ramen Noodles, Ben and Jerry’s and Oreo’s are not your friend. The gym is.

2. “Do not spend all of your money”
Plain and simple, learn what the word “SAVE” means. Yeah, school shirts are fun, a fully stocked fridge is clutch, but when you actually need money it won’t be there. And like Mom told you, you never know when you’ll want to go out to dinner or on a road trip with friends.

3. “He’s not the one”
“Mom, he’s super nice and really smart. Basically perfect. He’s the one.” HA, wrong.
You talked to him for a bit, gradually stopped any form of communication and BOOM. Bye to the guy that Mom said was just another player. Well, she was right. He was a jerk, his friends were too, and that was a waste of time.

4. “You’re really wearing that?”
I don’t know about you, but my Mom is the only person I trust going shopping with. She knows what looks best and will in fact say “that looks absolutely horrible” or “that looks amazing”. We all know friends lie because they A) want to look better than you or B) they don’t know how to crush your feelings. So stick with Mom… and hey, maybe she’ll even pay for the cute clothes.
Â
Â
5. “Enjoy your time but work hard”
You can have fun with friends and you can study for class. It is possible. Mom always told you to balance time, put school first and one day very soon you’ll be applying for big girl jobs and those late-night study sessions will be worth it.
Â
So when in doubt, just listen to mom because she really does know everything.
