How to Stay Healthy on Campus

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at GSU chapter.

College can be one of the most exciting times in our lives, but could also be one of the most stressful. From keeping up those grades, handling a busy social life, to being a freshman and experiencing so many new things in the real world. Most students get so caught up in the busy school life and the crazy nightlife, they forget to keep up with their body, and before you know it The Freshman 15 has entered your life.

So what is a girl to do? There has to be a solution to guarantee enough energy to balance everything out, and dedicating time to stay healthy is the way to go. Here are a few tips and tricks to stay healthy, fun, and still flirty!

1. Utilize the Rec Center

During my freshman year, I was beyond excited to have a gym center right down the block that was basically free. I told myself that I would go every morning before classes and attend all the events they held. Unfortunately, that plan went straight down the hole with Alice. I realize now, however that my problem was I did not set a plan for myself. It is nice to know that there is gym right around the corner, but to actually get yourself there is the real issue. So, if you want to get involved in all of the fun classes that GSU hosts, such as Zumba, yoga classes, and even boxing, grab the fitness calendar and list down all of the classes you would like to attend, and make time for them before you forget all about it. The Rec Center is a great place to keep yourself in shape and you will be surrounded by students just like you!

2. Making the Right Choices in the Dining Hall

If you are one of the lucky college students who have a meal plan, then you are in for a treat! However, with that much leisure to be able to eat what you want also comes the responsibility of making the right choices. The dining hall is packed with nutritious foods that are delicious and will fill you up in no time! Take advantage of the health experts in our dining hall, who are there to help you make better decisions when making a plate, make it easier to be healthy and still have delicious meals.

3. Make a Plan

This is definitely one of the trickiest parts of maintaining a healthy lifestyle in college, but it can make life so much easier. Get a group of friends together and talk about helping each other stay healthy. Having someone to encourage you to make healthy choices when it comes to food or a good gym buddy can make all the difference. With all the extra energy you will have from making healthy choices, you and your friends will be able to go out and have non-stop fun.
