Whenever we think about beauty standards, a limited ideal comes to our mind: Long luscious blonde hair, slim figures, someone who was taken out of a magazine. There’s a whole different beauty in each and every one of us. I see the beauty of a dark, curly haired girl with a wonderful smile and a drive for her hopes and dreams. 1. HCUPR: Tell us about yourself.
Yamary: I am a Loiceña, percussionist, artist, and student of comparative literature. Among my greatest passions are poetry and I’ve been involved in different competitions.
2. HCUPR: What are your goals?
Yamary: Among my goals is to make two masters, one in literature and the other in Scripts. I plan to be a complete literate and humanist, focusing on specific issues such as Negroid subjects and women.
3. HCUPR:What are your hobbies?
Yamary: My hobbies are painting, reading plays, music or writing.
4. HCUPR: What do you think makes you different?
Yamary: I guess my perspective of how I see things. I believe in success through effort and not that things just happen out of nowhere.
5.HCUPR: If you could do anything without getting caught, what would it be?
Yamary: That would be helping people as much as I can. I guess the real heroes are anonymous.
6. HCUPR: What has been your greatest accomplishment and why?
Yamary: My greatest achievement has been reciting a poem at the “Festival de Claridad” in 2012, because it was dedicated to my favorite poet Julia de Burgos.

Yamary: My father was a great percussionist and someday I want to become like him in that aspect.

Yamary: No one believes that my favorite color is pink.
