Finals are here, and, as we all know, those pesky tests, papers and projects can make anyone go crazy. On top of that, finals are a time of overeating, under-sleeping and virtually no time to exercise. Despite all of this, here are some tips to keep you mentally, emotionally and physically fit for top performance.

Take breaks:

We’ve all heard this one before, but it’s easy to forget to take breaks while studying. You get going and before you know it, a few hours have gone by and you feel completely brain-dead. In order to avoid complete mental malfunction, take breaks between every half hour of studying. Try going for a quick walk to help clear your mind before returning to your studies.

Study with friends:

Studying with friends is not an excuse to be chatty. Studying in a group setting improves both the amount of knowledge you retain and keeps you from becoming insane from hours alone in the library. Try studying for an exam with a friend in the same class. Even sitting with friends while you all study different subjects can decrease those stir-crazy feelings you get from being alone for too long. On top of that, with summer approaching, some of your closest college buddies will be hundreds of miles away, so take advantage of your last few days together.

Do things non-studying related:

The library might have extended hours, but don’t feel like you have to study from dawn to dusk every day this whole week. Take time to exercise, talk to friends and relax. Your studying will be more productive, and you’ll be a happier, healthier and more successful student.

We’ll all get through final one way or another, and then we will be homebound for summer. Hopefully these tips help you maintain mental, emotional and physical fitness during a super stressful time. Stay fit, Oles!
