Will Rothermel, recently appointed Associate Director of Athletics for Compliance, Facilities and Events for Ithaca College, will begin his work with IC during the fall 2015 semester. Â Rothermel has previously worked in the athletic departments of several other colleges and said he is excited to join the IC team now. Â We sat down for a Q&A with Rothermel to find out a little more about our newest campus celebrity.

How did you become involved with intercollegiate athletics?:
“My first experience with intercollegiate athletics was as a student athlete at Saint Michael’s College (VT) on the men’s basketball team.  Professionally, my start in college athletics began at Saint Michael’s as well as a sports information intern.”

What brought you to Ithaca College?:
“The immediate attraction was Ithaca’s reputation as a strong academic institution combined with a successful athletics program.  The opportunity to work with Susan Bassett and her talented staff was something that certainly drew me in further, but meeting with the student athletes of Ithaca College really made me realize this is where I belonged.”

“Patten Grounds Care, Inc. – landscaping during high school and college years
Ameriprise Financial – very briefly as a financial advisor
Saint Michael’s College – sports information
Old Dominion University – sport management program graduate assistant
Merrimack College – sports info, marketing, corporate sponsorship, ticketing, club sports
Virginia Commonwealth University – corporate sponsorship & development/fundraising”

What do you enjoy most about being involved in athletics?:
“Interactions with student athletes, coaches and those passionate about creating an outstanding student athlete experience.”

What is your least favorite part about athletics?:
“The fact that I’m not eligible to participate!”

What are you most looking forward to in starting at IC?:
“I’m most excited about the opportunity to have a positive impact on the direction of Ithaca College athletics and the 850+ student athletes.  Having the opportunity to be an alternative support and mentor to student athletes excites me a great deal.”
According to and IC Intercom notice, “Rothermel is a highly-successful athletics administrator with proven success and demonstrated achievement at the NCAA Division I and Division II levels.”  The IC Athletics Department and the IC community look forward to receiving Rothermel as a future Bomber!
