School is officially over, and the beginning of summer is approaching fast! After weeks of studying sessions, hardcore exams, and the hassle of packing up your dorm room, it’s time to focus on vacations and a few carefree months of freedom! I don’t know what it is about the summertime, but I always feel just a little more confident and I get the urge to venture outside of my comfort zone with my fashion choices. This year I’m sticking to that routine and trying out some new pieces, while also bringing back a few classic summer staples that a girl just can’t live without.
1. Â High-Waisted Shorts
Â
The moment to say goodbye to jeans for a while has finally come and these shorts are an obvious trendy staple. Denim cutoffs work for so many outfit options and they come in tons of different styles, there are endless ways to wear them. I love the benefits high-waisted shorts have; as someone who is just at 5’4”, these elongate my legs and make me feel like I’m channeling my inner Taylor Swift. If you’re not looking to shell out a ton of money on a brand new pair, try diy-ing your own! All it takes is some good thrift shopping skills and a little help from Pinterest.
2. Â Kimono Cardigan
I fell in love with this trend last summer, and it’s making a great comeback this year as well! Kimono style cardigans add a whimsical touch to your summer ensemble. Often paired with a crop top and denim cutoffs, the perfect bohemian look is created! These can be found in delicate floral prints, eclectic crocheted or lace versions, and fringed styles for a more daring approach. These are perfect for music festivals because they’re airy, yet they provide a way to protect your skin from the harsh sun.
3. Â Maxi Dress/Skirt
Perhaps one of the comfiest things I own is a maxi dress; these things seriously don’t get enough credit.  When I’m in desperate need of something that will keep me cool on days that feel like a desert outside, but I didn’t have time to shave my legs, a maxi dress or skirt is an easy solution! Even if you’re on the shorter side like me, they do have some options out there!
4. Â Crop Tops
Another item on this list that you can diy, crop tops are a fun addition to a casual outfit. These are quickly replacing plain old t-shirts for the season. You can usually find these at affordable stores like TJ Maxx and Forever 21, so it’s not something you have to worry about splurging on. Plus, what better way to show off summer workout results than by showing a little skin?
5. Â Sandals
Vacations are coming up, and we all need some footwear for the occasion. Find some comfy sandals if you’re headed to a beach or tropical area so sand doesn’t get trapped in your shoes. The key word here is comfy because there will definitely be a ton of walking and sightseeing!Â
