The Types of People You See While Traveling

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at American chapter.

If you’re getting ready to travel home or on summer vacation, you’re bracing yourselves to submit to public transportation and all the crazy people that come along with that experience. Regardless of where your destination is, you are bound to encounter some interesting people. Whether your mode of transportation is plane, train, or automobile, there are different types of people you will see.

The Child on a Leash

Airports and train stations can be very hectic places that are easy to get lost in. For those parents who don’t want to take the risk of panicking over where their child has ran off to, the leash is a great alternative. Although the parents enjoy having the safety of their children in their own hands, the kids are almost always less than pleased with the harness keeping them at arms length from their parent.

The People Running

We have all been there: either running late or having a layover that was cut short because of a previous delay has at one point caused us to sprint through the airport like our lives depended on it. Those running through the airport typically end up panting and in an argument with the flight attendant that will not allow them on their flight.

The Talkers

These people are very willing to tell you the entirety of their entire life story. These people typically don’t take the hint and continue on happily telling you everything from their favorite color to their worst date.

The Nervous Nancy

Traveling can be stressful and typically there will be some bumps in the road. For those who are more anxious or have a fear of heights or simply planes, airports can turn people who are typically very calm and collected into an entirely different person.

The Tourist

It can be hard to blend in when you are immersed in an entirely different culture, but you wouldn’t think that people would stick out so distinctly in hubs for transportation. The floral short-sleeve button down, bucket hat, sunglasses on croakies, and wallet hanging from their neck is a perfect example of what these types of people look like.

The Professional Traveler

Some people just have the drill down perfectly. These people know how early to show up before they are departing and what should be brought and not. They are TSA’s favorite people because they breeze through security like it is nothing.

The Sleepers

I envy those who were graced with the ability to sleep anywhere and everywhere. These people effortlessly fall asleep before their method of transportation has even left the gate and are awoken once they have reached their destination. These people can even fall asleep in the airport and train terminal amongst all of the chaos.

The Lovebirds

The lovebirds are the people that can’t seem to keep their hands off of each other in public. These people are extremely affectionate with their significant other and don’t mind who sees.

The People Watchers

The people watchers are mostly quiet and likely observing their surroundings. They are the ones that are making up conversations for the couple they see fighting, or classifying the people around them what kind of traveler they must be.
