Name: Amanda MurphyÂ
Age: 18
Major: BFA Production ManagementÂ
What made you get involved with Theatre?
During high school I had the opportunity to participate in both onstage and backstage theater. Although I did not come to Auburn as a part of the theater department, I volunteered to work backstage and was asked to ASM (Assistant Stage Manage) the Fall production of Hedda Gabbler. I fell in love with management and switched my major and have lived in Telfair Peet ever since!Â
What’s your favorite part of stage managing?
The most rewarding part of my job is watching the show come together. I watch the entire process from the first audition to closing night and get to see small improvements night by night. It’s very exciting to be so involved in the creation of the show and then finally present to an audience.Â
What was your favorite show to work here at AU and why?
So far, my favorite production has been The Guest List. The dance concert was my first dance management opportunity. This experience interested me in pursuing a career in this type of management.Â
What organizations are you involved with on campus?
I was just inducted into the Phi Sigma Pi Honors Fraternity. I’m also a part of AU Players and attend RUF when I’m not in rehearsals. Â
The semester is winding down, and stress is reaching an ALL TIME high! What are some things you do to relax and calm yourself down?
When I have the time, I enjoy reading a book in my eno. However my schedule is a bit too tight for that at school. My favorite way to recharge my brain is to climb the rock wall at the Rec. It’s great exercise and I always leave stress free. Â
If you had to give an incoming freshman one piece of advice, what would it be?
You will make time for what matters to you. Don’t let someone tell you, “You’ll be too busy.” Through time management, you can do the impossible!Â
