Surviving Sodexo isn’t an easy task, but it’s not impossible either. There are three ways to handle the low quality food we have here at Ithaca College. 1) Know what you don’t like. 2) Know what do you like 3) Try the unexpected.
Knowing what you don’t like is the first step. Most likely, the foods that you do like aren’t going to be the same quality as when you last had them at home. So, no matter how many times some one tells you “try things again in college,” when it comes to food, don’t…unless you’ve never tried it before. BUT, if you know that you don’t like asparagus, don’t eat it.
Next, we all know what we like. We know if we like Raisin Bran cereal, pineapple, burgers, yogurt or whatever else it might be. Usually, things that are simple or packaged come out better than when Sodexo tries to be fancy. Use simple things and make your own meals by using the food provided. IC freshman Kaitlyn Willis sometimes takes blueberry yogurt and some cereal or granola and puts it together in a bowl. She loves it! You just need to know your taste buds and seek the food you’re looking for.
Lastly. Even though people bash the quality of Sodexo’s food, sometimes Sodexo is good. Sure, it may not be a good idea to try foods you don’t like, but no one said not to try things you’ve never had! There may be things that you’ve never seen, like a waffle sandwich with chicken in the middle and maple syrup. To some, this may sound odd. Others may find it interesting or even completely normal. But, the point is, if you’ve never had something before, you should try it. Plus, worst comes to worst, you don’t like it and just end up eating something else. It’s buffet style for a reason!
