Hometown: Somerset, New Jersey

Relationship Status: Single
Her Campus (HC): So, did you know you wanted to write when you first came to FSU?
Andrew Small (AS): No, I actually entered as a theater major! When I was in the fall semester of my sophomore year, I had this epiphany and decided that I wanted to go into writing instead. It was definitely the right choice.
HC: Do you currently have an internship?
AS: Yes, I go out to the local Tallahassee high school sports games and even some FSU sporting events. My job is to write about the events of each game. Sometimes, I even get to interview the coaches and players after the game which is always fun!
HC: That’s awesome! Is there any sport you enjoy writing about the most?
AS: Definitely football. I just recently covered the FSU spring game.
HC: Where’s your dream place to travel to?
AS: Ireland! I’m Irish, so naturally, I want to go there, drink a lot of beer, and not be judged for it.
HC: Favorite movie of all time?
AS: American Sniper. I still can’t believe how good it was!
HC: If you could only keep five functional things, what would they be?
AS: That’s a tough one, but I would say my computer, phone, guitar, car, and football.
HC: How do you spend your free time?
AS: Watching Netflix, doing things for the Catholic Student Union at FSU, and occasionally playing the guitar.
HC: You mentioned you’re from New Jersey. Do you prefer that or Florida?
AS: I would take Florida over New Jersey any day. I feel like there’s a lot more opportunity down here for me in regards to becoming a sports writer. And of course, let’s not forget the weather.
HC: Who would you say is your biggest role model?
AS: JJ Watt. For anyone who doesn’t know, he’s a defensive tackle for the Houston Texans.
HC: Starbucks or Dunkin?
AS: Dunkin! French vanilla iced coffee with cream and sugar is my absolute go-to.
HC: If you had to jump into a pool of anything at all, what would it be?
AS: Probably orange juice. It’s my favorite!
HC: Where do you see yourself after graduation?
AS: I hope to start out somewhere covering D-League Basketball or Triple A Baseball, and then eventually work my way up the ladder. I know you have to start somewhere, but years down the road, I hope to become an NFL analyst.
HC: Finally, what advice would you provide to incoming Seminoles?
AS: If I had to give advice, it would be find five people you think you can spend the next four years with and create awesome memories with them. Don’t think of college as the place to find your wife or husband. If it happens of course, then good for you. But I see it as a place to find your groomsmen and bridesmaids!
