Thanks to the Internet, fashionistas everywhere are able to share their favorite fashion hacks with the world. One should never fret about stains, the painful process of breaking in a new pair of shoes or keeping your makeup flawless all day long when more often than not, the quick fix is within reach. As college students, it can seem like a difficult feat to look presentable towards the end of a long night of dancing Uptown or for your early morning class. But Her Campus is here to divulge five of the best-kept style secrets to help you make it through all four years with your clothes and personal image unscathed.
1. Spots, Blots and Stains, Oh My!There’s nothing worse than hastily preparing for a day of classes and meetings or primping for a night out of fun when you realize that a component of the picture perfect outfit you had intended to wear has a stain. And most of us have heard that if this blemish is oil based, well, we should just say goodbye to that piece of our wardrobe, as it is most likely unsalvageable. But there is in fact a solution to this pesky problem and it can be found right in your home— Dawn dish soap. By simply rubbing Dawn, or any other petroleum based dish soap directly on the stain before washing, you are almost guaranteed to rid your garment of that awful stain. Voila! Good as new. You can also try baking soda and the combination of dish soap and baby powder to do the trick.
2. These shoes, though painful and not broken in, were made for walking. When buying a new pair of shoes, it’s one’s first instinct to put them on and strut aroundcampus, all the while forgetting that choosing to wear new shoes for an extended period of time could lead to blisters and other painful “pedi-problems.” According to popular fashion blog, “WhoWhatWear,” this could all be avoided by putting on a pair of thick socks and blasting the shoes with a blow dryer.
3. Long Lasting Lip-ColorWearing lipstick is an instant enhancement to any look, but we can all do without the ever so high-maintenance upkeep that comes along with it; constantly reapplying after eating, drinking or simply gabbing for too long. Lucky for us, there are several tips available in order to maintain the long lasting lip color of your favorite lipstick hues, all of which take less than five minutes to complete—perfect for those days when you wake up late. All you have to do is apply translucent powder to your pout before your favorite shade, making it last for hours. And as for the inevitable in between touch-ups it’s all about the blot. Be sure to blot by placing a tissue between your lips, which according to Cosmopolitan, will remove any excess oils from the first application and make sure that the second coat stays put. Side Note: You can also try using a lipstick stain, which can easily be removed with hairspray.
4. Feeling Hot Hot, NOT!Spring has officially sprung, and that means temperatures are rising. Any commute around campus could cause you to break a sweat. In fear of ruining your favorite white tee, sweat stains can be easily removed with the help of lemon juice. Just spray the affected spots with lemon juice before washing.
5. On The RunCollege also calls for a time to be professional with seminars, meetings and an abundance of interviews. And when it gets chilly out, it’s important that you have a reliable pair of tights on hand. This can seem almost impossible when every pair has a run in them. In order to prevent this mishap, spray your tights with hairspray. If you’re catching it too late, applying nail polish to a run helps stop it from tearing even more.
