Jonathan Krueger, an integrated strategic communications junior and photo editor for The Kentucky Kernel, was killed on Friday morning.
According to The Kentucky Kernel, Krueger was shot during a robbery just after 2 a.m.
Police arrived on the scene two minutes after they received the 911 call.
Once there, the officers found Krueger lying in the street, as reported by The Kentucky Kernel.
Krueger will be missed by many, including the students staff and faculty at the university.
“At this time, we all want to extend our deepest sympathies to Jonathan’s family, friends, faculty members and fellow students. We have reached out to his family to let them know that we are there for them as well,” read Dr. Capilouto’s email, sent to the University of Kentucky community.
According to an aticle published by the Lexington Herald-Leader, two men have been charged in Krueger’s murder.
Justin D. Smith, 18, was charged with murder, robbery, tampering with evidence and evading police, and Efrain Diaz, 20, was charged with murder and robbery, as reported by the Lexington Herald-Leader.
The Kentucky Kernel will be hosting a memorial service Monday at 8 p.m. at Memorial Hall, as reported by the newspaper.
