With “Justas” just around the corner it’s no wonder our college athletes are getting warmed up. This is why the University of Puerto Rico at Mayagüez held the pep rally for this year’s Justas LAI, at the Coliseum Rafael Mangual last Tuesday, April 7, 2015.
Every UPRM team was presented and cheered on, including the UPRM’s marching band and the dance team. The event couldn’t have been possible without the leadership from the Student Council, whom worked hard to organize it and even handed out free “Justas” t-shirts.
After the formal welcoming from the Director of Athletes, Ray Quiñones and Student Council President, Jesiel Díaz, every single team went up front and each member, including the coaches, was presented as the UPRM Tarzanes and Juanas. Among them were: Judo, the Swimming Team, Softball, Volleyball, the Dance Team, Cheerleading Squad, and Track and Field. Without forgetting about the ones who bring the team spirit, the marching band along with the “abanderadas”, giving us a preview of the own “Justas”.
The enthusiasm and eagerness could be felt throughout the entire coliseum, but it was well summed up by Table Tennis’ Coach, Madeline Ramos: “Vamos a arrancarle la cabeza a Turabo.”
“Que se prepare la UMET”, Luisa Paris, one of the fastest women known, showed in equal defiance as Madeline Ramos. Ramos and Paris showed the spirit, competence, and confidence the UPRM community has. The rally ended after a performance by the band, the “abanderadas”, the dance team, and finally with the guest music group, LimiT-21.
