Long regarded as the house with no real defining qualities, the “If it were a drink it would still be water” house, and the house that’s least desired, Hufflepuff doesn’t necessarily come across as the house that is the best in all of Hogwarts. I know I myself was disappointed after continuously being sorted into Hufflepuff quiz after quiz. “Hufflepuffs are stupid. They just get thrown in there because they don’t have any qualities of the other houses. They don’t matter”. However, that is where I, and the rest of society are very, very wrong. Hufflepuffs are actually really amazing. They are exceedingly loyal, kind, hardworking, and so much more. Here are 13 reasons anyone should be proud to be placed in Hufflepuff –
1. The Sorting Hat said so
“For Hufflepuff, hard workers were most worthy of admission.” Enough said.
2. Cedric Diggory was a Hufflepuff.
The Goblet of Fire, an impartial judge, chooses what it believes to be the best Champion from each school for the Triwizard Tournament. Cedric Diggory, a Hufflepuff, was the true chosen victor. Also he was a total babe.
3. As was Nymphadora Tonks.
When’s the last time you were a metamorphic half-witch that gave birth and went right off to fight the world’s most evil wizard?
4. The founder of the wizarding village Hogsmeade was a Hufflepuff.
Imagine no Hogesmeade. No butterbeer in The Three Broomsticks, no Zonko’s Joke Shop, no Honeydukes? Much of the Harry Potter series takes place in Hogsmeade, and we have Hengist of Woodcroft, a Hufflepuff, to thank for that.
5. The Common Room is right by the kitchens.
All of the other houses are so many stairs away from the kitchens; it’s no wonder they can get quite grumpy. There’s no doubt living next to the kitchens has its benefits. Can you say party house?
6. J.K. Rowling herself said she was proud when her daughter said, “Everyone should want to be a Hufflepuff!”
And if the creator of all things good in this world likes Hufflepuffs, there’s really no reason you shouldn’t too.
7. Hufflepuff has the best ghost.
Nearly Headless Nick is whiny, the Bloody Baron is filled with too much angst, and the Grey Lady is just so sad all the time. The Fat Friar is a happy, plump, friendly ghost that all students love.
8. The mascot is a Badger, and badgers are pretty bad***.
They’re mega-fast diggers and pretty ferocious.
9. Hufflepuff is the most accepting of all the houses.
While all of the other founders were extremely selective as to whom they let in their houses, Helga Hufflepuff opened up her house to anyone who was rejected by the others without judgment. To this day, that is the essence of Hufflepuff, kindness and acceptance of all people.
10. Hufflepuff had the most people fight in the Battle of Hogwarts besides Gryffindor.
As the Slytherins disappeared, and the Ravenclaws hid and wet themselves behind their books, Hufflepuff had the most students next to Gryffindor that stayed to help fight Voldemort and the Death Eaters.
11. Hufflepuff has produced the least amount of Dark wizards of any house.
Even good ol’ Gryffindor had Peter Pettigrew.
12. Hufflepuffs can be trusted.
“Where they are just and loyal” Loyalty is without a doubt one of the most prominent qualities in a Hufflepuff. Every other house has liars. Xenophilius Lovegood was a Ravenclaw. Petter Pettigrew was a Gryffindor. And Slytherin had…. Pretty much everyone. But do you wanna know why nobody hears about lying Hufflepuffs? Because we don’t have any. We’re extremely loyal with a word as good as gold.
13. Hufflepuffs have the best qualities from all of the houses (they’re just modest about it).
They are brave. They all stayed to fight in the Battle of Hogwarts, but not to show off or prove themselves, but because it was the right thing to do.
They are hardworking and ambitious. Unlike Slytherin, they don’t let arrogance get in the way of their goals. They do what they need to do for the right reasons, and don’t tend to brag.
They’re still very intelligent. Ravenclaws, their highly logical thinking sometimes can come at the exclusion of compassion and moral obligation, whereas a Hufflepuff will never think twice about helping another.
There’s a limitless amount of reasons that attest to the pure, kind nature of the Hufflepuff house. No matter who you are, Hufflepuff will accept you, love you, and appreciate you, no matter what walk of life you’re from, who your family is, or how oddly unique you are. Anyone should be truly proud to be a Hufflepuff.
