This week we found some extra cuteness on campus, so of course we couldn’t choose just one cutie! We caught up with twins Dillon and Sydney Olagaray!
HC: Names
S: Sydney Lauren Olagaray  (my initials are SLO)
D: Dillon Alexander Olagaray (I love being called Dill)
HC: Major
S: Psychology Major, Biology Minor Â
D: International Relations Major, Theology and Religious Studies Minor
HC: Why did you choose to come to the same school?
S: I got recruited for running and couldn’t pass up four years in San Diego. Then Dilly got accepted a few months later and my parents pushed for us to both go to USD, so we didn’t actually plan on going to the same school but it just kind of happened that way!
D: Yeah, it was actually pretty funny that it worked out with us being in the same place! At first we were thinking about going to different schools, but then I saw the campus and thought to myself, “Oh my god this place is a freaking screen saver!” Besides that, it had the major that I was really interested in and it’s in classy San Diego so I couldn’t resist.
HC: Do you spend a lot of time together at school?
D: I would say it’s about fifty/fifty. We definitely make efforts to see each other when we are not too busy and we also know each other’s friend groups pretty well! We definitely try to have dinner once a week to just hang out and relax/catch up. I was in Madrid the past semester so it was a little hard not seeing Syd for awhile but we are now back to our routine!
S: I always hit Dill Pickle up to go eat together, and sometimes he denies me because he’s already chillin’ at Club Copley. We still like to run together too! (Confession: We have matching shirts that say “Twins Run in the Family”… but never actually wear them).
D: Sometimes we wear them… no shame.
HC: Have you been close your whole life?
D: Yep! Since day one!
S: Yep, womb mates for lifeeee! We like to do a lot of the same things, like eating, tanning, napping and drinking wine, so we end up spending a lot of time together doing those things.
D: We drive each other a little cray from time to time but overall we love each others’ quirkiness. She also tells me when I need to get in better shape, like , “Get a six pack and lose that snack pack!”
S: Or to lay off the pizza.
D: It’s a good source for carbs!
HC: What’s your favorite part about being twins?
S: Always having Dill as my go-to person. It’s so cool that we are the same age because we kind of think the same way and have the same major life decisions/events happening, so we can really empathize with each other about pretty much anything, anytime! It was also really cool when we were 6 years old and could have a boys & girls swim party versus other 6 year old girls who could only invite other girls to their swim parties, haha.
D: Syd couldn’t have summed it up any better! Since we’ve been so close our entire lives, it’s just definitely easier to talk since we know each other so well. We can talk about anything, and there will never be any judgment whatsoever. It’s really nice to have someone that gets you, so you never feel like you are alone.
HC: What’s your least favorite part…
S: Not to be super depressing, but you feel each other’s pain, I swear! When Dillon is sad, I’m super sad for him and if anyone is ever mean to him or hurts his feelings, I am way more mad at them than I am when people hurt my feelings. Nobody messes with my Dilly!!
D: Watch out people, she’s super protective! But it’s definitely the same thing with me. If anybody hurts my sister or makes her cry, I’m fuming and I feel bad that I couldn’t protect her from getting hurt. Just like any other siblings, we like to see family be happy, so it’s no fun when something bad happens. The good thing though is no matter what the issue is, we always power through it!
S: Preach it Dill!
HC: Did you look alike in baby pictures?
S: The way I tell the difference in our baby pictures is by looking at our heads… Dillon has a really big, oval-shaped head and mine is tiny and super round!
D: My head could have been used as a bowling ball. I was at least rocking a bowl cut.          Â
HC: What is something that is uniquely Dillon?
S: Dillon can talk to ANY person in ANY situation. It’s crazy. He can make conversation so easily and genuinely care about how each and every person’s day is going when he passes by them on the way to class. He is super good at public speaking, too! That kid was born to talk… or be the President of the United States… or both!
HC: Uniquely Sydney?
D: Syd can make any situation, no matter what it is, super fun and happy! She always lights up the room when she’s around & I can always count on her to help me improve a cruddy mood. And it’s not just with me, it’s with everybody! She’s quite sarcastic, but she always seems to put a smile on everyone’s faces.
HC: What are your hobbies?
S: Working out, particularly running, as I’m sure everyone knows at this point since I am always walking around campus in my running clothes haha. But I also really like snow skiing, boating, and being in the ocean (whether it’s attempting to surf, boogie board, or body surf). Beach volleyball is super fun, too.
D: I love to hike, snow and water ski, run (I try to make this a daily routine), swim, being active in politics, whether it is at the school or in Washington D.C., and most of all, traveling! If I could, I would plan trips all the time since there’s so much to see and do out there!
HC: Any plans or hopes for after graduation?
S: I really want to be a nurse, particularly an oncology nurse (cancer treatment). I need to get into grad school first, though…. eeekk!
D: I’m trying to go work on Capitol Hill in Washington for a few years to be a staffer in the U.S. Congress, but I ultimately want to be a lobbyist. As Syd mentioned earlier, I could probably win a gold medal if talking was a sport, and it’s definitely a profession where you have to use social skills to try to persuade people. I’m also hoping to go to grad school in a few years.
HC: Dillon, describe Sydney in three words.
D: Hilarious, understanding, ambitious.
HC: Sydney, describe Dillon in three words.
S: Outgoing, kind, goofy.
HC: How does it feel to be nominated as Her Campus’ Campus Cuties?
S: I just feel honored!
D: I feel like I’m a kid in a candy store! Thanks so much for the nomination, we were so surprised and are excited that we could be the campus cuties of the week!Â
