3 Ways to Improve Your Time Management

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Siena chapter.

You know spring has arrived at Siena when the boys bust out the colored shorts, everyone is wearing Sperrys and you want nothing more than to lay on a towel on Padua beach and soak up some rays.

I mean how can we be expected to do work when we everyone is playing frisbee and listening to music?  If you thought your procrastination was bad enough already, prepare yourself for a bunch of outdoor activities that are as tempting as marathoning Scandal or House of Cards.

This is your warning that time management is more important now than ever.  By following these next couple of tips, I promise you’ll be able stay on top of your research papers and finals as well as waste away afternoons and weekend days outside.

1.  Write down everything.

You know that free planner everyone was given at the beginning of the year?  Or that desk sized calender you have in your room that you don’t actually used but made you feel all cool and professional when buying it?  Yeah, know is the perfect time to break in those bad boys.  Between five classes, jobs and clubs, we have a lot going on.  At the rate this semester is going there are no signs of it slowing down.  The key here is to keep one calender to avoid confusion.  Write down assignments and homework sure, but also keep track of dinner plans, when you plan to workout, study time and most importantly sleep.

2. Plan ahead.

Nothing is worse than getting invited somewhere and realizing you left your 5 page psych paper until the last minute and won’t be able to make it.  PLAN AHEAD.  Break up large assignments and work on them a little bit each day.  If you have a slow couple of days, get ahead on some reading or studying.  Planning ahead helps take away the burden of having everything due around the same time and makes your schedule more flexible.  No more staying in for you!

3.  Treat yourself!

No one wants to spend hours couped up in the library pouring over problem sets ever, and even less so in the spring.  Finished a chapter?  Take a five minute social media break.  Finished an outline?  Treat yourself to your favorite candy or grab some froyo.  Finished all your work due for tomorrow early?  Have a movie night!  It’s the little things that will keep you going.
