Welcome back to Entertainment10! From Beyoncé and Jay-Z to FLOTUS and Jada Pinkett, this week’s headlines were ruled by A-List celebs. So, without further ado, here’s your one stop shop for the top entertainment news!
1. Black Girls Rock! BET celebrated black women in television, music, film, education and philanthropy for the fifth year in its Black Girls Rock award show. The show, which was hosted by Tracee Ellis Ross and Regina King, also featured a special appearance from the FLOTUS herself, Michelle Obama. The event, which is held to empower women, celebrated and honored Ava DuVernay, Erykah Badu, Cicely Tyson, Nadia Lopez, Jada Pinkett Smith and Dr. Helene D. Gayle. The show capped off Women’s History Month and additionally featured performances from Fantasia Barrino, Erykah Badu, Jill Scott, Janelle Monae and more.
2. The Carter reign continues, as Jay-Z launched a new music streaming service, and his wife released new music all in the same week. Beyoncé, Madonna, Nicki Minaj, Chris Martin and Kanye West were just some of the many celebs at Jay-Z’s Tidal launch event. The new music streaming service’s launch was star-studded, as music’s top artists attended the event to sign the company’s declaration as equity owners; the company says they stand to protect artists’ music. Later in the week, on Bey and Jay’s seventh anniversary, Queen Bey released a brand new song exclusively on her hubby’s new venture, entitled “Die With You.” Mrs. Carter additionally released the loving ballad’s video on Tidal, which features her playing on the piano as her hubby records the singer on a personal cam.
3. The Daily Show’s new host, Trevor Noah, is already under fire. A day after it was officially announced that Noah would be the replacement for Jon Stewart, the 31-year-old comedian faced backlash over several controversial tweets that many have called sexist and anti-semitic. However, Comedy Central has quickly come to the new host’s defense. “Like many comedians, Trevor Noah pushes boundaries; he is provocative and spares no one, himself included,” a rep for the network told The Wrap. “To judge him or his comedy based on a handful of jokes is unfair. Trevor is a talented comedian with a bright future at Comedy Central.”
4. Paul Walker’s brother speaks on Furious 7 release. At the Hollywood premiere of Furious 7, Walker’s brother Cody Walker, who filmed scenes after his brother’s death, told US Weekly how he felt about the release of the highly anticipated movie. “I’m happy it’s over. It’s bittersweet,” Walker said. “It was something that so many people put their heart and soul into and now everyone can see it. It was a good way to close the chapter.” Furious 7 hit theatres on Friday after breaking the pre-sale record set by Captain America: The Winter Soldier.
5. T-Pain spills the beans on Robert Pattinson and FKA Twigs’ engagement. What was originally pegged as a possible April Fools joke has been confirmed by People. After T-Pain gave an interview telling Vulture, “[FKA Twigs is] engaged now,” he tried his best to cover up his slip of the lips by calling it an April Fools joke. However, People says that Pattison and Twigs are, in fact, engaged after just six months of dating. Neither of the couple’s representatives have released a comment.
6. A Beyoncé and Chris Brown track was leaked. A remix of Beyoncé’s “Jealous” hit the Internet this week with a new sound. Brown can be heard jumping in on the second verse singing, “Queen B, I’m trippin’ ’cause I’m a little insecure when your phone go off, So mad I’m drunk texting / Now I’m reminiscing how we fell in love in Texas / Girl, I’m jealous.” After its leak, Brown confirmed the track’s validity on Twitter by tweeting, “I did the jealous remix some months ago for the Beyoncé collaboration album but it was never used. Glad you guys get to hear it.” The tweet was later deleted.
7. Jessica Simpson has come a long way from her “Chicken of the Sea” days, as her brand makes history. The singer/actress’ fashion brand has officially reached the $1 billion mark. It was announced this week that Simpson sold majority interest in her Jessica Simpson Collection brand to Sequential Brands Group. “I am extremely honored to partner with Sequential Brands Group to continue the growth and integrity of the Jessica Simpson Collection,” Simpson said in a statement. “Working together with the powerful management team at Sequential and with all of our trusted retailers and licensees, including Camuto Group, there is no limit to our success. I’m as committed as I was ten years ago. Here’s to the next billion.”
8. Khloe Kardashian shares her thoughts about Jamie Foxx’s Bruce Jenner jokes during the 2015 iHeartRadio Music Awards. The award show, which was hosted by Foxx, opened with the comedian making a few crude jokes about Jenner’s transition to a woman. “We have some groundbreaking performances here too tonight. We got Bruce Jenner, will be here doing some musical performances. He’s doing a his and her duet all by himself,” Foxx said. “Look, I’m just busting your balls while I still can,” he added. Jenner’s youngest stepdaughter didn’t take the jokes very lightly, telling The Insider, “I just think it’s a low blow. I think it’s very mean. I wish him all the best. It is what it is. I know Jamie, so I think that’s also why that’s a really low blow,” Kardashian said. “But hey, guess that’s what he felt the need to do for a little press.”
9. Teresa Giudice is seen in her first photo since beginning her 15-month sentence. A recent family photo taken at the Federal Correctional Institute in Danbury, Connecticut where Giudice is being held, shows the Giudice clan all together as the family’s matriarch sits in the middle wearing a green jumpsuit. The photo, which was shared exclusively to US Weekly, was also accompanied by an interview with the Real Housewives husband, Joe Giudice. “I cry more than the girls,” Giudice admitted to US Weekly when talking about saying goodbye to his wife after their visits. “I pretty much cry every time I leave. Like a little baby.” Joe will begin serving his 41-month sentence once Teresa is released.
