Ladies, it is finally starting to get warm out again! The dreadful walk to class during winter term is over and you can see the grass again. With warmer weather comes the typical Spring Cleaning. While not everyone’s favorite activity, working in our tips to both spring clean your life and your dorm, you’ll be able to start this season off on the right foot.
How to spring clean your life:
1. Start doing your favorite activities againThis could mean any hobby you used to love to do or one couldn’t do because it was cold out! It could mean going on runs outside, reading for fun, or sitting in the park! Doing more of what you love adds more fun into your crazy college schedule and therefore relaxes you. So take that dance class you have been meaning to take or finally pull out your guitar!
2. Declutter your mindMany of us harbor negative emotions over time such as anger, jealousy, and hatred. These emotions do nothing but add negative energy into your life, making them worthless and harmful to your happiness. Try to realize that these emotions aren’t worth your time and aren’t adding anything to your life and try to let go. Even though it may seem so important, think about your future and see that they truly don’t matter. Try releasing your anxiety or stress in a healthy way! Try doing some yoga, journaling, listening to music, or go to counseling.
3. Get active and reset your New Year’s ResolutionsThe winter cold have you stuck inside? Yeah us too! Don’t worry; spring is the perfect time to get active again. Exercising outside is way more fun too! Try a new activity like rollerblading! The Schuylkill River is a great place to do it! If your New Year’s Resolution is something other than exercise, set a new goal and go forth!
How to spring clean your room/home:
1. Do Some Actual CleaningTake out all the cleaning supplies you own. If you don’t have what you need, a quick trip to CVS will help you stock-up on the essentials. If your tight on money, remember this products last forever and will be well worth the cash. Also consider splitting the price with your roommates so everyone can use them.
2. Prioritize Make a list of the most important parts of your house/room that need to be cleaned or organized then start from the top and work your way down.
3. Clean Up the KitchenWhen cleaning your kitchen make sure to sanitize your sink. It may be hard to believe but a dirty sink has more bacteria than a toilet seat. The stove is typically the dirtiest part of the kitchen so ending with it will keep you from spreading bacteria.
4. Start With a Clear SurfaceWhen cleaning your desk, start by clearing everything off. Wipe down the entire surface then put everything back in the right place, nice and organized. Throw out old papers from last term that you don’t need. Organize your writing utensils with labels or little containers. Look inside your desk drawers to see what you don’t need and throw out all the junk, we all know it’s there.
5. Clean out your closetsStart by folding all the clothes that might be lying around. Look in your closet to see if there is anything you don’t need. If so, make a bag to give away to Salvation Army or to donate in general. I have also sold to Buffalo Exchange in Center City, which is a great way to earn cash for more clothes or, you know, schoolbooks. When putting your clothes away, find an organization system that works for you. I personally like color-coding, but sleeve length works too.
As flowers are blooming and everyone is emerging from the chill of winter, it’s time to do some reinventing of yourself. Spring cleaning both your life and your home are great steps to kicking off the term on a good note. Also remember, if you clean a little now, there will be much less to do later.Â
