As most WVWC students already know, spring sing is quickly approaching!
Spring Sing is the last, and arugably most important, event of the annual Greek Week compeition, in which fraternities and sororities go head to head in sports matches. After a long stretch of athletics, each organization performs a 8-10 minute song and dance skit based off a common theme. It is worth more points than any other event, but also stands alone, meaning winning Spring Sing is a bragging right all on it’s own!
Greeks are running off to late night practices and stomping and singing seems to echo through campus as they rock out to their country music (this year’s theme!).
The anticipation seems to be at a new high this year, and no one knows that better than Zeta Tau Alpha Spring Sing Director, Lauren Rogina.
She has more pressure than the competitors coreographers, however, since she is currently directing a three time champion sorority.
After ZTA’s 3-peat win at last year’s 90s bash, all eyes are on these ladies to see if they’ll be the top performers once again.
“It makes me really nervous, but as long as we are having fun it doesn’t matter to me,” said Rogina. “Although, we’re ultimately striving for a win.”
Lauren is also excited about some of the changes to Spring Sing, and can’t wait to show everyone what they have been working on during their allotted practices.Â
This year, independent groups outside Greek Life are permitted to compete, so a winner will be chosen amongst the sororities, fraternities, and amongst all participating groups, and the element of dance will be worth more points than in the past.Â
Although Lauren has a long history as a trained dancer, she said the country theme made it a bit difficult for she and her sisters to come up with the coreography at first. Overtime, however, the theme has grown on her and she is excitied to see what other Greeks perform and the audience reactions. Â Â
Â
She hopes in the future, the Spring Sing committee will consider granting more time to organizations to prepare and practice their show. With the semester and school year winding down, she thinks the limited time frame adds more stress to the event, and more practices would make for an even better/tougher compeition.
This year should be exciting, so don’t miss one of Wesleyan’s most beloved traditions!
Come out to Wesley Chapel on April 18th to catch the 2015 Spring Sing compeition and check out Lauren’s creation.
Best of luck!
