April Anthems: New Music Coming Out This Month

It’s that time again, Collegiettes – time for a new month full of great new music! This month is set to see a huge range of music releases, from All Time Low to Reba McEntire to Josh Groban, so let’s not waste any time getting started.

All Time Low

Album title: Future Hearts

Release date: April 7th

Let your inner middle school emo kid rejoice. Legendary emo pop band All Time Low is releasing a new album this month! The pop punk band’s 6th studio album will include 13 songs and 3 additional B-sides. As far as whether or not the new album will keep up with All Time Low’s characteristic sound, frontman Alex Gaskarth explains, “we’ve certainly tried some new things, but I don’t think it’s necessarily going to alienate anyone or push people away that loved the last record.”

Matt and Kim

With hits like “Daylight” and “It’s Alright,” the Matt & Kim duo is known for their catchy tunes and eccentric music videos. As the band’s first album since Lightning in 2012, New Glow arrives this April long awaited by Matt & Kim fans. With 10 new songs – including the dance inducing single “Get It” – the new album is sure to be a hit, and we can’t wait to hear more from it.

Reba McEntire

Whether you’re a country fan or not, you’ve got to admit that Reba’s made strides in the world of country music. She has released a grand total of 26 studio albums (not including her compilation albums and other miscellaneous albums), holds the record for the most Academy of Country Music Top Female Vocalist awards, and even has her own TV show. Nothing can stop Reba!

Alabama Shakes

Since the release of their single “Hold On” in 2012, female-led band Alabama Shakes has been gaining ground in the Americana music scene. They’ve come a long way , and are even performing at Coachella this year. Their sound is something like Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeroes mixed with good soul music. If you haven’t checked them out yet, April 21st is your chance!

Passion Pit

The embodiment of today’s synthpop, Passion Pit has always been a driving force in the world of creative music. You’ve probably heard of hits like “Sleepyhead” and “Take a Walk”, and if you enjoy those, you’re likely to enjoy their new album. While you wait for it to come out, you’ll have to enjoy their single “Lifted Up (1985)” (along with the song’s entrancing music video).

Yelawolf

Alabamian hip-hop artist Michael Wayne Atha, better known by his stage name Yelawolf, has been making one-of-a-kind hip-hop/rap music since 2005. His songs have been featured in hit TV shows like Sons of Anarchy, and he is signed with Eminem’s record label Shady. Yelawolf’s eccentric musical style makes every song a treat, and we can’t wait to hear an entirely new set of songs on his new album.

Josh Groban

Ah, Josh Groban. The man’s vocal range is amazing and has the ability to soothe with just a short listen. With four platinum albums and 25 million records sold worldwide, Mr. Groban’s talent is unquestionable. I mean, have you heard the perfection of his voice in his cover of “You Raise Me Up”? What about his original song, “Brave”? Appreciate Groban’s voice with a few listens, and get excited for the release of Stages on April 28th!  

The Weepies

The Weepies’ feel-good music exudes simplicity, truth, and ease. You’ve probably heard their heartbreakingly beautiful love song, “The World Spins Madly On.” If you look at the YouTube comments on that song, you’ll see all the significant life events that people associate this song with. We can’t wait to hear the touching new music that we know Sirens will bring.

Zac Brown Band

Combining a tropical sound with classic country, the Zac Brown Band has a sound all their own. It seems “Toes” is the anthem of Collegiettes during the summer, and “Colder Weather” is the anthem of Collegiettes going through a rough break-up. Whatever the case, there’s no doubt that the Zac Brown Band knows what they’re doing. Jekyll + Hyde is sure to include some new Collegiette anthems for all kinds of occasions.

Sarah Christine Davis is a junior at FSU who frequently has to use her middle name so as not to be confused with the millions of other girls who have the most basic first and last name combination ever. She is double majoring in Editing, Writing, & Media and Media & Communications Studies and, believe it or not, one day wants to work in the media.
