This winter was particularly brutal. From mountainous drifts of snow to bitter winds whipping around campus, Collegiettes at UMass have been looking forward to the coming of spring since at least January. Even though spring is upon us, you never know what New England weather will bring. Here are five things that will help you deal with winter next time it comes around.

1. A Humidifier

If your hair is looking extremely frizzled or if your throat is feeling sore when you wake up in the morning, a humidifier could be a way to solve these problems. The colder air gets, the drier it gets as well, and restoring proper humidity to a room is a solution to that. Humidifiers can be fairly inexpensive so get one that fits your price range.

2. Tea

Who doesn’t like tea? I know most UMass residents run on Dunks, but maybe you can switch it up every now and then. There are so many different types, each with their own unique health benefits.  Green tea is related to an increase in brain function, weight loss, and energy! Here are a few of my favorite types of teas below.

3. Heated Blanket

Having a heated blanket is definitely a game changer when it comes to this cold weather. By now we’ve realized that dorms aren’t the most ideal temperature, so having a little extra warmth can’t hurt. The only problem is just that you may need to hide it from your roommate since she’ll want to use it just as much as you will.

4. Moisturizer

My skin is so sensitive to the cold, it’s always chapped. However, this problem is easy to keep under control with some lotion or body scrub. I always carry a little bottle of lotion in my backpack so I can apply it after a long, windy walk to class. A body scrub can be very beneficial as well because it exfoliates your skin as well as moisturizes it.

5.  Hair Oil

The cold weather can be just as rough on your hair as it is on your skin, drying out your ends more than usual. Just like your skin, you need to keep your hair hydrated as well. Hair oils, which most major supermarkets stock, have risen in popularity over the years and come in a wide array of choices. Here are some choices below!
