Thank you to the Political Science and History Department who brought in Dr. Luke Peterson from University of Pittsburgh to discuss what his new book, Palestine-Israel in the Print News Media: Contending Discourses (Routledge Studies on the Arab-Israeli Conflict), argues.
Peterson works on contemporary representations of Palestine-Israel in print media in Great Britain and the United States. His research compares portrayals of the two regions and his own personal experience from living there, he represents and explains divergent public and social interpretations of conflict that is in the Middle East that is misleading through the print language media.Â
He graciously had a meet-and-greet at the HUB where he sat with students and held a discussion with those who attended. Throughout his presentation he mentioned topics that were considered to be “uncoventional” for example – mentioning US aid in the Middle East and the history of the Palestine-Israel situation and the politics behind it. He considers himself a critic of the whole situation and decided to express his beliefs through his book and classes held in the University of Pittsburgh. Even though many criticize him and call him “naive,” Dr. Peterson takes those remarks and says – “being naive is equal to being hopeful for the future.”Â
