Lena Dunham won’t be getting married—at least not until everyone else can, too.
The Girls actress spoke candidly about marriage on Monday’s episode of The Ellen Degeneres Show, explaining that she and boyfriend Jack Antonoff will not tie the knot until gay marriage is legal in all 50 states.
“Well, it’s something that…the idea of having a celebration that can’t be fully shared among all the people in my life and all the people that we love just doesn’t really feel like a celebration at all,” she told Degeneres. “So, until that’s something that everyone can join into with no sense of being left out on any level, politically, emotionally, it’s just not something that we’re gonna do.”
While the couple of three years is waiting on marriage, Antonoff has previously spoken about wanting children in the near future, according to Us Weekly. “It just seems like the most fun thing in the world. I’ve never met people who have kids who haven’t looked me in the eye and been like ‘It’s the greatest thing that’s ever happened,'” Antonoff said. “I think it’s biological. I’m 30. I’m not that young, right? I’m not, like, 24 or 22. I’m no longer in the phase of my life where I talk about everything as in the future. Like, I’m in the future.”
