Although Connecticut is not Antarctica, it sure can feel like it. With freezing temperatures and seemingly endless amounts of snow, students are not far fetched in their hopes for classes cancelled due to the snow. A couple of years ago, a Yalie would’ve told you, “Keep dreaming!” if you asked them about the possibility of a snow day. Before 2012, Yale had not had a snow day since 1978 – a long 35 years! However, Yale has been more lenient on giving students a little break while keeping everyone safe as school was cancelled twice due to dangerous weather in the 2012/13 school year. This year, Yale has had one snow day so far even though it was a bit preemptive as the conditions were not as bad as the weather reports suggested. Although one day of cancelled classes does not sound like a lot, given that snow days at Yale are such a rarity this was a huge deal for the student body and the staff! With upcoming storms, students may hope for another day off but they should still be wary. That said, make sure to still sleep with your pajamas inside out – who knows what could happen!!Â
