Collegiettes™, walking can be an extremely beneficial way to stay in shape, without exerting too much physical energy. Not everyone is fond of going to the gym, or sweating, especially in the Florida heat. Gentle exercise practiced over a period of time can be just as beneficial as vigorous exercise practiced in short intervals.
Walking is an excellent way to keep your heart healthy, while toning your legs, bum, and arms. A gentle all around exercise like walking lowers disease risks, such as heart disease, stroke and possibly even dementia. The ease of walking is endless. Walking can be done in any weather – treadmills or indoor tracks if it’s harsh weather outside. Walking can be casual, power walking, or hiking, various levels of exertion to suit any person’s fitness levels.
Not only is walking a type of exercise that can be done anywhere, weekends, school, home, vacation, all that is needed is a pair of walking shoes or sneakers. Walking can also be woven into your routine quite easily. Instead of driving to nearby shops, walk instead. Park your car on the edge of campus in order to walk into the center and all of your classes. Making walking an integral part of your day, and into your natural routine will make it seem less like an exercise.
Of course, there are many places around USF Tampa that are great to go for a scenic walk. On campus, there is the trail by Greek Village, or downtown Tampa has a lovely walking path alongside the river. You can even take a trip out to St. Pete Beach for a walk along the ocean. Walk your way to wellness to keep your weight in check, body healthy, and skin glowing!
