Meet this week’s Campus Celebrity, Michael Santiago! You’ve probably seen his charismatic charm around campus as a panther camp facilitator or repping his fraternity, Beta Theta Pi- Eta Gamma. Read more about Michael below!
My name is Michael Santiago but I go by Mikey. I love a good time and have met many people thanks to my involvements and my outgoing personality. I have learned that even though the university is huge, everyone knows each other and you always have a mutual friend or acquaintance, and I have been able to meet more people through the people I already know. Of course, going Greek has helped me meet a lot of people and establish myself well on campus.
Age: 20
Major: Hospitality
Year: Sophomore
Q: What are you involved with on campus?
A: I was a panther camp facilitator (2014), Wishmaker’s on campus Executive board, Alternative Breaks participant, Relay for Life Committee, Fraternity man and current Vice President of Beta Theta Pi – Eta Gamma.
Q: Why did you join a fraternity?
A: I joined a fraternity because a lot of my family is Greek affiliated and I knew I wanted to follow in their footsteps. I felt that being in a Fraternity would give me the full college experience and it has given me that and so much more.
Q: What have you learned from being a Panther Camp facilitator? What was your favorite experience at Panther camp?
A: Being a panther camp facilitator I have learned how to work with many different types of people and step out of my comfort zone to establish great connections on campus. My favorite experience as a Facilitator I would say was working and bonding with my incredible team and getting to know the incredible campers!
Q: What are your plans after graduation?
A: I plan on going to law school, hopefully Columbia Law, where I want to eventually practice Hospitality law.
Q: What is your most memorable moment at FIU?
A: My most memorable moment at FIU would be the incredible bonds I have created over my time here and enjoying my time with those I have met.
