Groundhog Day 2015 Recap

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Bryant chapter.

On Monday, February 2nd, 2015, Punxsutawney Phil ventured outdoors to help us determine the fate of this winter. Although the weather portrayed overcast skies, to our dismay, the infamous groundhog saw his shadow. Unfortunately this means that there will be six more weeks of winter. Punxsutawney Phil made his forecast at approximately 7:25 in the morning in the midst of snow showers; something we should expect more of over these next few weeks.

A fun fact about Groundhog Day is that it does not only take place in Pennsylvania. The festivities also take place in other areas including Atlanta, Georgia, Ontario, Canada, Raleigh, North Carolina, Sun Praire, Wisconsin, New York, New York, and Birmingham, Alabama.

People often accuse the event of being a hoax, and they might be right. One may not know that Phil has submitted a forecast 102 times. Out of those 102 times, he didn’t see his shadow only 17 times.

Anyway, in a more positive light, weather professionals claim that this winter will be known for its length, rather than being known for its intsensity. So hang in there, ladies, spring will be here before we know it!!
