Who is ready for the best year of film releases ever? 2015 has a long list of hotly anticipated titles. Save these dates in your diary as you are going to be busy at the cinema!
The Divergent Series: Insurgent (release date: 20th March)
Have you gotten your hands on copies of the popular trilogy by Veronica Roth about a dystopian Chicago? Well don’t worry, it’s not too late to start. Once you’ve familiarized yourself with the first book and film, ‘Divergent’, get ready for more action starring Shailene Woodley and Theo James. These two play attractive teenagers who, despite an evil plot being hatched which threatens their lives, begin to fall in love. Who doesn’t love an action film with a sexy romance whilst the main characters fight to right some horrible wrongs?
The Avengers: Age of Ultron (release date: 24th April)
The wildly popular Marvel Studios is set to release another surefire hit with the sequel to 2012’s ‘The Avengers’. Here’s the background information on the first one in case you haven’t seen it yet: Super-heroes Iron Man, Captain America, Thor, and Hulk teamed up with Hawkeye and Black Widow to take down the incredibly powerful and evil Loki who was set on destroying the Earth. Their combined abilities defeated him and his otherworldly creatures. Scarlett Johansson as Black Widow proved herself as strong as all of the boys when she singlehandedly took down an entire group of Russian terrorists in her character’s introduction. This time, the group is joined by Quicksilver and another much needed female lead: Scarlet Witch. Let’s hope her character is properly developed. Also, in case you need some eye candy to entice you to see this film, Chris Hemsworth and Chris Evans are back to play the aforementioned Thor and Captain America.
Pitch Perfect 2 (release date: 15th May)
Get your girls together to see the sequel to the popular ‘Pitch Perfect’ starring the fabulous Anna Kendrick and Rebel Wilson. With a poster with the slogan: We’re Back Pitches, you know this sequel is going to be fun. The A-Capella choir group enters an international competition that no American group has ever won. Can this group be the first ones to do it? Let’s hope so!
Jurassic World (release date: 12th June)
Chris Pratt, who you may remember from last summer’s smash ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’, returns to the big screen in this sequel to three previous Jurassic Park films. Who wouldn’t want to see living, breathing dinosaurs in person? This fantasy led to the building of the original ‘Jurassic Park’ but when a greedy man conspired to ruin the Park, the dinosaurs got free from their enclosures and created chaos which resulted in many deaths. A new park has since been opened and is quite successful, but like other theme parks out there, it seeks to outdo itself with new attractions such as a terrifying hybrid dinosaur. I’m sure you can guess how successful that will be! Can Chris Pratt and fellow cast once again save the day?
Minions (release date: 26th June)
The beloved minions of two previous ‘Despicable Me’ films finally get their own movie. Desperate to find a master, they happily encounter Sandra Bullock’s villainous Scarlett Overkill who will attempt to take over the world. These minions named Stuart, Kevin, and Bob don’t realize that by doing her bidding they’ll be helping lead to the obliteration of every other minion in the world. Now, they embark on a quest to save their species! No matter your age, the minions surely will appeal to the kid in you.
Spectre (release date: 23rd October)
Daniel Craig returns as James Bond in the 24th film of the action adventure series. Odds are you have encountered at least one Bond film in your life and after the success of ‘Skyfall’, Bond’s popularity remains secure. Not much has been revealed about this picture, but Bond will receive a cryptic message that will send him on a mission to find out more about the organization the title is about: Spectre, one that has very nasty intentions. Once again, it looks like it’s on Bond to keeping things from getting out of control…
The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 2 (release date: 20th November)
Jennifer Lawrence returns as Katniss Everdeen to continue working with the rebellion to finally free her country of Panem from the ruthless reign of President Snow. Can they succeed? Also, the question of who she’ll end up with, Peeta or Gale, will finally be answered! The fiercest teenager rebel in cinematic history leads a crew joined by her gorgeous male costars Liam Hemsworth, Josh Hutcherson and Sam Claflin.
Still of the cast from ‘Mockingjay Part 2’
Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens (release date: December 18th)
Good luck finding much about this highly anticipated film. The cast is very tight lipped whenever interviewed and JJ Abrams, the director, has little to say, as well. However, the film takes place 30 years since ‘Return of the Jedi’ and once again will star Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher, and Harrison Ford reprising their famous roles. Peace never remains for very long, so villains will emerge and threaten their very existence. It would not be Star Wars if some power hungry individuals did not try to take over the galaxy, after all! Can’t wait to find out more? Nor can I!
Basically, if you think you might be living in the cinema this year, you will not be the only one. Start saving up money for all of those admissions and snacks you know you have to have and enjoy the plethora of film goodness.
