Keepin’ Up With Kelia Li ’17

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Notre Dame chapter.

I had a chance to sit down with future accountant and current Purple Weasel Kelia Li. This girl’s all business, never casual. Kidding kidding, but seriously, good luck finding her on a lazy day.

For all the readers out there, especially any prospies, what’s your favorite thing about Notre Dame?

You’ve probably heard this a few million times but…#1 undergraduate business program in the nation. It was a big draw for me because I knew I wanted to be an accountancy major. Also, the campus is stunning during the spring and summer -classical architecture, lush green quads, cherry blossoms by the lake (I’m serious!). However, what really makes you fall in love with ND is the people. ND has people who hold the door open for you, even if you’re more than a yard away; people who bake cookies and knock on your door to offer you one or two…or all of them; and people who will just go out of their way to make your day.

Kelia and her friends, all class.

What’s not to love?  I challenge you – pick the most memorable moment.

The MOST memorable moment is a tough one because there have been so many activities and laugh-until-it-hurts moments in college thus far. One particularly exciting moment though was last year when the Asian American Association (Triple-A) brought Sam Tsui, a popular YouTube artist that I’ve followed since 2009, to Legends for a performance. My friends also came and visited me that Saturday, so we all went to his concert, and I got a poster signed and had a picture taken with him. It was amazing because I never thought I’d ever get a chance to meet him, and then, out of nowhere, BAM! He’s coming to campus. College is crazy like that.

Speaking of Triple-A, here’s Kelia at this year’s Asian Allure!

Wow, that’s a lot of excitement.  What do you do with your down time, if you have any at all?

I’m kind of weird, and I won’t apologize for being that way. I like Netflixing (yes, used as a verb), listening to music by Joe Hisaishi to relax, singing Disney songs, networking, event planning, watching anime and reading manga. I also like to experiment with theatrical makeup and draw. I also sew and draft my own patterns for sewing.

(I only know this because of my boyfriend and Wikipedia)

Never apologize for being weird, that’s my motto.  Now, onto something less fun.  What don’t you like about Notre Dame?

Least favorite thing is easy: the weather. ND lacks an actual dome, as in a giant, glass dome to go over the entire campus. While I’m from Northern Indiana, I find South Bend too cold. The great, glass dome can harness the power of the greenhouse effect and block icy winds and precipitation. I suggest we look into alumni funding for this instead of the Crossroads Project. Also, we can have holes drilled into this dome for air flow and some precipitation. I’ve thought of everything.

Lastly, my favorite question.  Describe your personal style!

I tend to dress on the business side, formal. I like dark colors, clean lines, and class-meets-edgy. Right now I’m wearing black pants, a fitted dark grey long-sleeve (rolled to 3/4 sleeve) shirt with a hint of cobalt blue camisole at the v-neck line, and a silver necklace. Other times (cough, finals), I’m rocking the XL sweats/black leggings with a poncho/pink, unicorn-print sweatshirt.

Cosplay is style people, let it go!
