Top Ten Movies to Watch this Christmas

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UK chapter.

With Finals Week wrapping up, it’s finally time to head home for the holidays and curl up by the fireplace watching Christmas movies. The only challenge is deciding which classic to watch.

After much debate and consultation, these Christmas movies stole the show. Just be prepared; movies like The Holiday and Love Actually didn’t make the cut.

10. Dr. Seuss’ How the Grinch Stole Christmas (2000)

I want to experience Christmas in Whoville just once! Jim Carey is the perfect Grinch.

9. Jack Frost

A harmonica has never been more magical. Besides, snowmen make really cool dads.

8. Miracle on 34th Street

Don’t you believe in miracles? Especially those that occur on 34th Street?

7. Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer/Frosty The Snowman/Dr. Seuss’ How the Grinch Stole Christmas

These three animated films are incredibly short, so they serve as an excellent triple feature, lasting around 90 minutes. Sounds like the perfect night to me!

6. Home Alone

As kids, we all dreamed of being left home alone for a weekend. Kevin is a legend.

5. The Santa Clause

Hunker down with this classic. The reindeer will know what to do.

4. A Christmas Story

Thanks to TBS, you can watch this one all day on Christmas Eve. Just be sure you don’t shoot your eye out!

3. Elf

Thank you, Buddy the Elf, for teaching us that the best way to spread Christmas cheer is singing loud for all to hear. Did someone say, “SANTA?!”

2. National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation

Christmas has never been a greater nightmare. Here’s hoping cousin Eddie doesn’t visit you this holiday season.

1. It’s a Wonderful Life

This 1946 black-and-white classic will forever go down as the best Christmas movie ever, as far as I’m concerned. The iconic plot is recreated time and time again.

"Sam I am," and I LOVE to read. Whether it's Jane Austen's "Pride and Prejudice" or The Mortal Instruments series, I'm always reading. And when I'm not reading, I'm writing; English papers, magazine editorials, you name it! Italian food is my favorite, shoe shopping is my addiction, and I hate cold weather. I'm also a proud member of Slytherin house (we're not all bad, I swear).
