Jean Lee is one of those people here at CUA that everyone loves. Between her involvement with the CUA Dance Team and her busy job in the Dean of Students office, you can imagine how demanding her schedule is, but of course Jean Lee made time to speak with us this week. And now, we want to share with you why she is just so awesome!

HER CAMPUS: Hi Jean Lee! Thank you for meeting with us. We know between running hall events and studying for finals, this week is very stressful. But, with Christmas right around the corner, we can all see the light at the end of the tunnel. Do you mind sharing with us one of you favorite holiday memories thus far here at CUA?

JEAN: Thank you for selecting me! I am so excited! And yes, CUA is awesome around the holidays. I would have to say my favorite memory was during freshman year when my friends who grew up in warm places saw snow for the very first time. Watching the joy on their faces and seeing their smiles makes you feel like a kid again, even if it’s just for a brief moment before finals comes crashing down.

Do you have any special holiday traditions that you brought from home to share with your new CUA home?

I think what I brought to CUA was just my overall Christmas—cheer…. I mean when those Starbucks holiday cups break out on November 1st, the decorations in the room go up immediately and the holiday music comes on.

Do you have any Finals Day “favorites” you look forward to?

I know Finals Week is everyone’s least favorite week of the year, but my friends and I have made it a tradition to find a conference room in the Pryz. Someone wakes up early to get the room, and someone else gets coffee. It’s the one week of the year we all live together and it’s the small amount of joy during a time of chaos.

Do you have any advice for freshman taking finals for the first time?

I would say first, study by yourself. Whether it’s for 15 minutes or an hour, familiarize your self with the material. Then, after that, review in a large group by quizzing each other and asking questions. If you show up with some knowledge you will get more out of the review session. Also, I know “all-nighters” are a big thing, but try and avoid them. Even if it is just three hours, three hours of sleep is better than nothing. You want to stay sharp and remember the material you’ve been studying.

What is your favorite part about being an RA?

I love seeing my residents grow. I have been so lucky to progress and move up with the freshman residents I started with in Ryan over to Opus. Its so eye opening and incredible to watch them develop into the people they are going to be for the rest of their life.  I also love being able to help build the community I want to see on campus. It’s a job that is so rewarding and I wouldn’t trade it for the world.

What celebrity do you want to see on a Christmas calendar this year?

Josh Hutcherson….like hello…he rocks that Santa hat!

What are your three favorite holiday activities to do in DC?

1.     I love snapping a picture in front of a Christmas tree with my roommates and friends. Whether it’s the National Christmas Tree or just one on the mall, it gets me excited for the Holiday Season.

2.     I also love going to see the Nutcracker at the Warner Theater (performed by the Washington Ballet).

3.     Lastly, the other day when I was getting off the metro underground, when I heard barbershop quartets singing Christmas carols—it was beautiful and free. That’s the kind of Christmas spirit that makes the holidays so wonderful.
