Okay, for this activity you will need a winter jacket, snow pants, winter gloves, winter hat, scarf, and somewhere to be warm afterwards. Or, you could honestly just go commando and ignore everything I just said and be your natural snow angel self.
Making a snow angel dates back to the times of Snowatticus. Snowatticus was an Egyptian King who decided to visit the North Pole one day. Random right? Snowatticus set out on this journey to experience snow for the first time and he set out on this journey commando. No one really complained to be honest. Many have speculated that Ryan Gosling is related to Snowatticus; hence why no one complained. But I digress, Snowatticus got lost on his way to the North Pole and grew rather frustrated. He grew angry and annoyed. Eventually, he came very close to giving up and returning to his home in Narnia (which was obviously in Egypt), before he looked forward and saw the land of white; also known as the North Pole. He was so happy he fell to the ground and started waving his arms and legs, up and down. Snowatticus noticed a great joy develop within his heart as he did this and termed that act of joy as making a snow angel. True Story.
All joking aside, I love making snow angels. I kid you not, there’s something about laying in that snow, and yes you may be freezing, but there’s something liberating about just laying back and waving your arms and legs back and forth. In life there are many rules. There are many written and unwritten rules. Rules like, do not steal, or do not hook up with your best friend’s ex, or you must attend every Beyoncé concert. There are written and unwritten rules and it can all get rather overwhelming. Then you add on the stresses of everyday life. Stresses from school, stresses from your parents, your siblings, your work, and even stresses from yourself. Laying in the cold snow is, yes you guessed it, a rather unwritten rule. If you were to see someone laying in the snow waving his/her arms back and forth, you might think the individual to be a bit crazy right? Seeing a child doing such a thing is rather normal but seeing an adult doing it is unheard of; unless they are doing it with the child. I want you to lay on the snow just once this winter and make a snow angel. I want you to go numb to everything and anything besides that feeling of the cold air brushing against you and to feel that wave of calm settle over you as all your stresses slip away.
The snow angel is a metaphor for freedom. Do something that is outside the box this winter. With exams stirring up and work and well, life, I want you to do something to de-stress. As Katt Williams always says, “you can’t be forgetting to take care of your star player.” Your star player is yourself. Get out there and make a damn snow angel.
