Black Friday Survival Guide

Think back to Black Fridays past.  Many shudder at the thought of mass crowds, lines as far as the eye can see and hours of no sleep…but the prospect of finding that once in a lifetime deal makes venturing out that Friday after Thanksgiving completely worth it.  Follow these tips to ensure you have a successful Black Friday shopping spree!

1.  Have a plan.

Know what stores you want to hit and when.  Also have a general idea of what you plan on buying.  Having a plan will save you from the overwhelming atmosphere, and maybe from a ridiculous purchase or two.

2.  Have a budget.

With deals left and right, it will be hard to resist buying every cute thing you see!  Just remember, it will all add up in the end. You DO have books to buy for next semester….

3.  Make time for food breaks.

Not only will you give your tired feet a rest, but it is important to stay nourished if you plan to shop for hours.  Grab some breakfast before heading out, and about halfway through your shopping, head over to your favorite restaurant or the food court for a quick bite.  You will save yourself from collapsing of exhaustion and finally get to recount your crazy shopping stories of the day with your friends.

4.  Dress comfortably.

This is definitely not a time to dress up for the mall.  Sneakers, leggings and a sweatshirt are the way to go for maximum comfort, and ease for quickly changing in and out of them.

5.  The early bird gets the worm!

Eight AMs are hard enough to get up for…but those don’t hold the promise of half off those blue pumps you’ve had your eye on.  Wherever you plan on doing your shopping, get there as early as possible.  Apart from increasing your chances of getting what you want, many stores have special promotions and free goodies for the first couple of hundred shoppers.  This is one of the few days of the year when you will want to get up early!
