Old School Movies You Need to Watch Right Now

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Bloom U chapter.

There are plenty of new movies coming out that have great graphics and modern actors that are extremely relevant to today’s culture and life style. However, there are some movies that you just have to see at some point in your life. So, what time better than the present?

Rocky Horror Picture ShowRocky Horror is a movie from the mid seventies that follows the night of a newly engaged couple that lands themselves in the middle of a party with some extremely unusual characters. If you’re lucky enough to find an opportunity to see the show live with actors definitely take up the offer. However watching the movie on DVD at home is also a great option.

St. Elmo’s FireIn this film you see the lives of a group of recent college graduates as they grow into their new adult lives and how that affects their friendships respectively. It’s a well put together film with modern topics… Plus you get to stare at 1980’s Andrew McCarthy for two hours, so it’s a win-win.

The Breakfast ClubAnother 1980’s film starting the Brat Pack, you observe five students from different high school cliques spend their Saturday together in detention. As the day progresses they realize they are not really as different as they had thought. It’s truly a movie that never gets old.

Ferris Bueller’s Day OffWhen Ferris decided to skip school due to an “illness” he instead embarked on a day-long adventure with his girlfriend and best friend traveling to many different events and making the most of their day off.  All was going well until Ferris’ sister and high school principle start to believe he was not really ill and they decided to try to catch him in the act. Follow Matthew Broderick circa 1986 to see if he finally gets caught!
