Campus Celebrity: Theo Rutherford-BrowneAKA DJ Theon Bower
The new big name on campus, simultaneous celeb and cutie- aren’t we lucky gals?Theo was president of Holland Hall, he’s had internships galore at the biggest media companies, he is head of Audio Visual at the new music brand ‘Mahatma’- making their way around all our favourite haunts of Exeter, and as if that wasn’t enough, Theo was providing you with your ledge anthems last Friday, as he worked the Decks on TP top top. That’s hitting the big time ladies. And he’s single! We caught up with Theo in the midst of his many projects and extremely hectic social schedule-
Theo, first question, how the hell do you fit it all in?
With difficulty! I usually just sleep less so I’m often knackered, but you only do Uni once so why waste time?! Work usually loses out first but I’m an excellent crammer and it’s panned out pretty well so far! Are you a permanent fixture in top top now?I wish! Luc still comes back to Exeter to DJ every Friday because he loves Top Top so much! I’ll be in there on the 23rd October though with more of the same tunes, so come and say hi!Tell us a bit more about Mahatma music!I got together with some other third years over summer and after some hard work its all fallen into place. The formula is simple – good music, good vibes and good mates and you’ve got yourself a sell-out night! The next night’s line up is awesome so come down to cavern on the 28th and get involved! We’ve also got a Mahatma facebook page to keep the whole Mahatma Family in the loop so check that out, too! What’s on your ‘Most Played’ playlist at right now?
I’m really big on future house at the moment, so if you’re looking for some artists to get into I would reccommend Tchami and Oliver Heldens. I’m loving Endor’s new remix of ‘Heartbroken’ as I’m really into my garage so I’ve been playing that a lot! If you’re in to a bit of grime, Skepta’s new single ‘It Ain’t Safe’ is also worth a listen! What are the best events we can look forward to Exeter this term?Good question! All three Mahatma nights of course! I’m also Djing at the Winter Wonderland SSB so I’m really excited for that. I would have loved to see Waze & Odyssey next week but I’m off to Egypt for some mid-term sun!Last of all, how can us girls expect to land a date with the famous ‘Theon Bower’ ?Hardest question of the lot! I like girls who are active, have loads of hobbies, like to party but most of all they have to be a traveller! Most of my bucket list is made up of places I want to see before I die so I’m always on the hunt for someone to travel with. I’m actually quite bad with girls though so I always appreciate if someone is sending obvious signals my way haha
