Every year at Halloween, I find myself taking the easy way out in terms of costumes. At the last minute, I look through my closet and try to figure out what pieces in there could come together to make some sort of generic costume. I’ve literally been a cat for the past three years. I’m sure many of you can relate to this struggle, whether your issue be thinking of a creative idea, or actually executing that idea by shopping and putting the whole thing together. This year, we’re going to change that, and our friends are going to help us do it. To get us motivated, I’ve put together a list of some group costume ideas that are creative, clever, and cute to get us through Halloween weekend.
Â
1. Greek Goddesses
This is a costume idea that I’ve wanted to do with a group of friends for ages. I know it may sound like a typical Halloween costume, but there are actually a lot of ways you can get creative with it. The first things that you need are your basics:a white dress or some fabric that you can make into a cute little toga-type dress, gladiator sandals, gold jewelry and some sort of headpiece.
After that, it’s time to get a little more creative. You and each of your friends should pick which goddess you’d like to be (love, earth, water, etc.) and tweak your costume to fit your choice. With this specific goddess in mind, you can add some cool and creative embellishments to your outfit and makeup. This way, you and your friends are all doing something together, but you have a chance to be an individual as well.

2. A Famous Pop Star Through the Ages
I’ve seen a few groups do Britney Spears over time. One person is Britney in “Oops… I Did it Again,” one in “I’m a Slave 4 U,” and so on and so on. I’ve always thought that this was such a fun costume, because it also gives you a chance to plan your own costume while also doing something with your friends. Plus, Britney had a lot of great outfits. However, there are so many other pop stars worthy of this costume idea. You could be Beyonce over the years, from Destiny’s Child all the way up to “Flawless.” If you want to get a little funny with it, you could also be Miley Cyrus over the years, or Miley’s transformation.
3. Franzia
Us college girls love our Franzia, so why not actually become it for Halloween? I once saw a great group DIY Franzia costume, in which each girl had a different shade of pink or red shirt on with a skirt made out of some sort of plastic material. You could print out a Franzia label, or cut out the side of a box and tie it around your neck. This costume lets you get crafty, and will probably make for a great photo-op once it’s your turn to slap the bag.

4. Mermaids
This is another costume that is nothing too out-of-the-box, but could allow you to get very crafty and creative. You and your friends could head to Michael’s and Jo Ann Fabrics to get the necessary supplies—shells, rhinestones, and some sort of shimmery blue or green fabric. You’ll also need a cheap bra. Once you have all of that, you can put together the top by super gluing your rhinestones and shells onto the bra, and creating a tight, high-waisted skirt with the fabric. Once you’re done, you are guaranteed to have one of the most unique mermaid costumes out there.
So, there you have it. I know that I’ll certainly be choosing one or more of these ideas with my friends, and this year I’ve made it my mission to follow through with a great costume. I hope you’ll all do the same, and have an awesome and safe Halloween!
