What I have on my iPhone: October!
Most people I know these days would say that they would be completely lost without their phone. Phones which used to simply be a means of communication, can now provide us with maps to get us places, allow us to unnecessarily shop online wherever we are and you can now even use your phone as a spirit level (although really when are we going to need to use that?). So my friends, with the overwhelming world of the app store in front of you, which apps do you pick to fill up your precious phone memory? Now Iām a little nosey so I always enjoy these insights into peopleās iPhone picks. So here are my monthly app picks to perhaps guide you in the right direction:
Depop
Depop is effectively a pretty hybrid of Instagram and EBay. Iām sure, like me, many of you have a mountain of unworn clothes steadily growing and an ever-decreasing amount of wardrobe space to house them! Well Depop could you your thrifty saviour. This app provides an easy way to get rid of clothes that you no longer wear or that rash buy from Topshop that you never wore and still has the labels on. Yeah we all think after we see it on some beautiful celebrity that we can pull it off tooā¦ not always the case. It is easy to use, safe (as you pay through Paypal) and very user-friendly. All you do is upload your unwanted clothes, set a price and send it off to its new happy owner when it is bought. No more lying on the reject pile for you disco pants. I have managed to get a number of dresses worth Ā£60 for just under Ā£20 having never been worn and still bearing tags! This app has also led me to find young designers who hand make clothes at cheap prices which you will never find anywhere else. The only downside to this app is that youāll end up spending more than you sell and damn it, your wardrobe is full again. Itās a vicious circle.
TOP TIP: Keep your wits about you and buy from sellers with good reviews!
Cook with M&S
Now my fellow HC girls will know I love to cook so this app got me very excited! If you are no Mary Berry but still fancy making yourself and your friends some treats in āDine In For 2ā style then take a helping hand from this tasty little app. It provides a selection of recipes and handy in app timers so any of you can rustle up something that is worthy of GBBO. It also allows you to change the quantities of the recipe for however many people you are cooking for ā perfect for students who are cooking for one! (Iām resisting the urge to sing āAll By Myselfā here). The only downside of this app is that they need to add more recipes!
TOP TIP: I canāt wait to try the Five Spice Rice.
Seven
Seven is a work-out app which even caters for the laziest of us couch potatoes. This app encourages you to work out whenever you have 7 minutes, and will even notify you to remind you to work-out. Surely a 7 minute work-out is really easy I hear you say. Do be warned however, it is deceptively difficult! This app has definitely improved my strength and fitness ā believe me I was giving up one each exercise at first and can now make my way through the whole workout!
TOP TIP: Keep at it! You lose a life if you miss a day! Oops.
Bloglovinā
Now this app is definitely not a new app but as they say itās an oldie and a goodie. If any of you are into reading blogs or write a blog yourself then this is the app for you. It collates all your favourite blogs into one handy newsfeed so that you donāt have to access all the websites separately. It also allows you to ālikeā a blog which means it is easy for you to find later or it is also a good platform for finding new bloggers. It is easy reading at the click of a button and fantastic inspiration for Her Campus articles!
TOP TIP: Some of my favourite blogs are āHello Octoberā and āHannah Maggsā (beauty and lifestyle), āA Thrifty Mrsā (bargain hunting) and āStudent Lifeā (lifestyle and humour).
8tracks
I know this is an app that most of you will have heard of but 8tracks is my saviour in essay and exam time. After day upon day in the ādeath cubeā, the same songs on your iPod can get tiresome. 8tracks provides a sea of new playlists to get stuck into, all created by listeners like you. I do warn you however, that some are almost too good for the library. A number of times my flatmates and I have been laughed at by the third floor for mouthing along to āindependent women power playlistsā. Hey, someoneās got to provide the entertainment right?
TOP TIP: āUberchillā is one of my favourite revision playlists, so I highly recommend it!
