Carolina Production’s proved their greatness yet again this past Wednesday with the annual USC’s Got Talent show. Magician Matt Franco, who happened to win America’s Got Talent just last month, came to host the event and even performed magic tricks for the audience—allowing some Gamecocks to get involved in the stunts.
With such a comedic and entertaining host, the event was destined for success; but student performers did not disappoint either. This talent show did not include the typical tap-dancing routine or a snooze-worthy John Mayer cover. The acts were extremely unique; ranging from a light glove show to a magic act, all-leading up to the final contestant and winner of the show who performed a circus act.
Junior Rachel Hipszer has surprisingly only been doing circus routines for three years, but credited her talent to years of gymnastics. In her performance, she created a story in which she incorporated dance, juggling, and balancing on a self-made structure. Although Hipszer had tough competition, her extraordinary performance stuck out to the judges and earned first place. Runner up was Hayden Childress, aka “Haydini,” who performed a magic routine choreographed to music that included lots of confetti. Lastly, Alecz Yeager was picked as this year’s “Crowd Favorite” for her spectacular cover of Ed Sheeran’s “You Need Me, I Don’t Need You,” in which the petite freshman blew away the audience with not only her vocals, but her tremendous rapping skills.
If you missed out on USC’s Got Talent, footage from the show will be posted Monday on the Student Gamecock Television Network (SGTV)’s News channel on YouTube. Looking for more fun campus events? Be sure to check out Carolina Production’s “Comedy Open Mic Night” next Tuesday, October 14th at 8pm!
