Name: Courtney La Belle
Year: Senior
Age: 21 (Almost 22!)
Hometown: Boca Raton, FL
Relationship status: In a relationship
Major: FSU-Teach Mathematics
Her Campus (HC): Why did you decide to major in FSU-Teach Mathematics?
Courtney LaBelle (CL): I liked doing math when I was in high school. It came easy to me, and it was like trying to solve a fun puzzle. I decided I wanted to teach because I want to share my love of math with others. I know many people find math to be hard or boring, and I want to show them that math can be easy or more enjoyable.
HC: What do you plan on doing with your degree?
CL: My goal is to teach high school math.
HC: Have you had any fun experiences in your field of study? If so, what was it like?
CL: Maybe not “fun,” but interesting. I had a class where I learned how to incorporate history into a math lesson. I used the history of how the quadratic formula was developed many, many years ago to better explain its use. Incorporating history adds a different element and more interaction in the lesson.
HC: What is your dream job?
CL: To teach and be a soccer coach at whatever school I end up at.
HC: What are some of your interests outside of school?
CL: FSU football is my life!!! My family and I have been huge Seminole fans for a really long time now. But when I’m not obsessing over that, I like to go shopping, line dancing, or to the movies. Adventurous activities, such as zip lining, are really fun, too. It’s almost as exciting as trying new restaurants! I’m planning on trying the Tin Cow pretty soon!
HC: Do you have a life motto? In other words, is there a certain way you try to live your life?
CL: Think twice, act once.
HC: Who is your celebrity crush?
CL: Channing Tatum!
HC: What’s your favorite television show and why?
CL: Ahh! I can’t pick one.
I really like The Amazing Race. I like how they travel around the world competing in challenges. I began watching with my mom and we joke about how we should race around the world too, always talking about which challenges would be easy for us to do.
I also really like the Walking Dead. I thought it would be stupid or too scary, but then I started watching it with my boyfriend, and I loved it. It really makes you think about what would happen if you lost everything.
Once Upon a Time is a favorite, too. I like the spin on the classic fairytales we grew up with. It starts again this Sunday so I am very excited!
New Girl with Zooey Deschanel makes for a funny show. I often compare what happens in the show to my life. There have been quite a few similar occurrences…
What can I say? I like television.
HC: Okay, one more fun question! What is your favorite meal and why?
CL: Even though it can be really messy, I love the S’mores Burger at Midtown Caboose. It sounds like a strange meal, but it’s soooo good!
HC: As a senior, what advice do you have for incoming students?
CL: Don’t procrastinate! Everyone probably tells you that, but I procrastinate all the time, and it gets very tiring. So learn from my mistakes!
