How to Revamp Your Wardrobe Without Going Broke

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Adelphi chapter.

We’re almost nearing that time of the month again. No, not that time of the month. The other time of the month when we start intense holiday shopping. If we listen closely, we can almost hear the sound of our bank account sobbing just thinking about it all. On top of that, this is now the season that stores put out the cutest fall/winter clothes. As much as you want to spice up your wardrobe, the last thing on your mind is probably spending money you know you’re going to end up needing during the holidays. It’s a good thing, we, the ladies of HC Adelphi know a couple ways you can revamp your wardrobe without hurting your wallet.

Go through your closet. Make a pile for clothes you often wear and a pile for clothes you forgot you ever bought. Then try to come up with some outfits matching at least one thing from each pile together. That way you won’t feel like your wardrobe and style will always be consistent. You probably like your closet color coordinated but maybe you can try outfit coordinating. It will definitely make your mornings way easier by having the outfit on a hanger ready to go!

Switch out your coat buttons. It’s time to get rid of those buttons on your coat that are becoming a little too worn out. Why buy a pricey outerwear when an inexpensive bag of gold buttons can make you feeling like Blair Waldorf in a matter of seconds. By switching up the buttons, you’ll feel like you’re wearing the season’s hottest coat.

Recycle summer wear. Just because the seasons changing doesn’t mean you have to bid your summer clothes farewell until next year. Recycle the cute rompers and dresses and throw an oversized sweater or cardigan over the chic outfit. You’ll have a cozy and cool touch added to your favorite summer staples.

Make belts your best friend. Adding a belt to a dress or tunic top can really bring an outfit up a notch. It gives your outfit visual interest and can make it go from dull to fun.

Change the shoes. Instead of wearing what you usually opt for, try a pair of shoes you have sitting around that you wouldn’t wear with an outfit. Try heels or dressy flats with an outfit you’d typically wear UGGs with. It’ll be unexpected and highly impressive.

Bust out the statement necklaces. The next time you wear a plain T-shirt promise yourself you will add some major bling. Statement necklaces have been a continuing trend this year and we can understand why. At stores such as Forever21 they retail for about $6 (bargain much?) and they grab just the right amount of attention.

Try a new shade of lipstick. Feel like a Lizzie McGuire outfit repeater? Try to change up your look with a bright shade of lipstick. If you throw on a hot pink or coral shade on your lips, nobody will notice that you already wore that same dress and that you already have 2 selfies up on Instagram with it on.

Don’t forget the hair. Even the most boring outfits become glorifying with a new hairstyle or hair accessories. An Elsa inspired side-braid will have you feeling like the Queen that you are!

The next time that you feel yourself cringe over the clothes you won’t be able to buy this season, stop yourself! You now have these tips to motivate you to come up with something definitely even bolder and sassier than anything in a department store. Remember, to fully revamp your wardrobe it has to come from within. As long as you radiate happiness and positivity, your style will always be on point. And that’s priceless!
