This year, there are three captains of the Marshall University dance team. Morgan Wright, Alyson Cox, and Emily Troutman, seniors, have all been on the dance team together for 4 years! Morgan is a broadcast journalism major from Cleveland, OH, Alyson is a nursing major from Princeton, WV, and last, but not least, is Emily, an English pre-law major from Blacksburg, VA.

HC: How long have you danced?

M: I never danced in a studio, but I was on the dance team all four years at Marshall! I also participated in competition cheerleading for five years.

A: I have danced since I was five years old. My first dance recital, I wore one tap shoe because I was in a cast.  I was also on the dance team in high school.

E: I have danced for 18 years, since I was about three.

HC:  What is your favorite part of being on the dance team?

M: Game day! It gives me such an adrenaline rush to hear 30,000 people chanting “we are Marshall” and contributing to the atmosphere.

A: Being with the group of girls that I get to dance and preform with. I did not grow up liking Marshall. Where I am from, you either like WVU or Virginia Tech. Once I was here I fell in love with Marshall and game day.

E: The honor of getting to perform on game day and setting an example to the young girls who look up to us. When I came to Marshall I did not know anyone, and joining the dance team gave me not only friends but 20 sisters – that has to be the best part.

HC: What made you want to be a captain of the dance team?

M: I honestly did not expect to be considered. I feel that I have good leadership, and I can relate to the team. I also want the younger girls to know that they can come to me about anything.

A: I am just so honored to have been chosen to be a captain. It can be hard to call sidelines at times, but I love working with the girls and helping them.

E: I feel, being a captain, that I can set an example for the younger girls, and I would not want to lead any other group of girls. I also think that I will be able to take away great leadership skills from this experience.

We wish the girls the best of luck during this season and cannot wait to watch you girls preform!
