The days are getting shorter, the nights are getting colder, football season is in full swing and fall weather is upon us. With a drop in temperatures comes the appearance of Uggs and Northfaces. Why not keep yourself warm this autumn with the best drinks this season has to offer? Here are my favorite warm fall drinks for the season.

1.  Starbucks’ Salted Caramel Mocha

I was never a mocha person until this year, but so far I have had several great ones. Starbucks’ Salted Caramel Mocha is the perfect blend of espresso, steamed milk, mocha sauce, and toffee nut syrup. The whipped cream topped with caramel sauce, turbinado sugar, and sea salt make this beverage sweet with a delicious hint of savory saltiness. Undoubtedly a splurge, but well worth it.

2.  Biggby’s Chumpkin Latte

What is a Chumpkin Latter you ask? It’s a chai tea latte with pumpkin flavoring in it. When it comes to a basic iced chai tea latte I swear by Starbucks, but anytime I’m craving a warm flavored chai latte I visit Biggby coffee on Eddy Street. If you love chai lattes and anything pumpkin, this is the fall beverage for you!

3.  South Bend Chocolate Company’s Harvest Moon Mocha

Like I said, this is the autumn of the mocha for me (the first time I have ever liked mochas, so think honeymoon phase). The Harvest Moon Mocha is the perfect mix of espresso, steamed milk, molten chocolate, hazelnut, caramel, and whipped cream with a cherry to finish it off. The best part of this beverage is the presence of the South Bend Chocolate Company’s melted chocolate. I also recommend you try their pumpkin crunch, you might just leave with a bag to munch on.

4.  Celestial Seasonings’ Sweet Harvest Pumpkin Tea

I believe that all mornings should start with a nice comforting cup of tea. This is a black tea with hints of cinnamon, ginger, roast chicory, natural pumpkin flavor, cloves, nutmeg, some stevia sweetness, and, of course, pumpkin. It’s an all natural, yet sweet way to start your morning. The spices provide the perfect balance to the sweetness. Did I mention that the whole box will cost you less than one drink at a specialty coffee shop?

5.  Pumpkin Spice Latte

I have a bit of a Starbucks addiction, so my last pick is classic Starbucks Pumpkin Spice Latte. I’m not a coffee person, but I definitely like espresso for a little kick on cold mornings when all I want to do is stay in bed under a pile of blankets. This is a delectable blend of steamed milk, espresso, pumpkin flavoring, cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves, and pumpkin pie spices all topped with a dollop of whipped cream. If nothing else, this drink is sure to put you in the mood for fall!

Notre Dame

Maria is finishing her Masters in English at Notre Dame. She has read many good books and several bad books, but she usually tries not to finish those. Her current favorites are: 1984, The Book Thief, The Tragedy Paper, Code Name Verity, Dr. Copernicus, I Am the Messenger, Alice in Wonderland, Peter Pan, and of course, Harry Potter. She is writing her second thesis on Harry Potter, exploring notions of authorship and reader agency in the digital age. She even managed to write her Capstone on British Children's Literature and designed her own Directed Readings Course on Notre Dame history during undergrad. Her favorite way to read is with a mug of tea and scented candles. When she doesn't have her nose stuck in a book, she can be found binging on the BBC (Downton Abbey, Doctor Who, Sherlock, Merlin [RIP]). Her favorite color is purple, she studied abroad in London, and she enjoys being an amateur painter. She harbors a not-so-secret dream of one day writing a children's book, but until then, she is likely to be found reading them and writing letters whenever she gets a chance. She hopes to teach English or work in a university sharing her love of education.
